Reopening Date Revealed for Favorite Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Dining Experience

Some of the best restaurants at Walt Disney World are located right around the Magic Kingdom monorail loop, and one fan-favorite is gearing up to reopen soon.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is home to popular restaurants like ‘Ohana, which serves up all-you-care-to-enjoy grilled meats and shrimp, sticky wings, delicious noodles and famous bread pudding, and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, an “enchanted tiki bar” that is always a hit with Disney fans.

Another favorite spot to dine out, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at this iconic Disney Resort, can be found nearby ‘Ohana on the second floor of the Great Ceremonial House: Kona Cafe.

Kona Cafe has undergone a number of menu changes over the years, however, some staples have thankfully remained like delicious sushi served at lunch and dinner, and Tonga Toast (a unique taste on stuffed French Toast) served with breakfast.

The restaurant has been closed for refurbishment since August 16, 2022, with no reopening date initially announced from Disney. A recent look at the Resort’s website however indicates that the restaurant’s hours are listed for November 1, 2022, when they have been off the calendar throughout its refurbishment. Reservations are not yet available for Kona Cafe, but they should open up soon where the hours are already back on the calendar.

Disney was vague in detail when the refurbishment of Kona Cafe was announced at the beginning of the summer, so it is unclear for now if this was a major refurbishment that will result in noticeable changes to the restaurant, or if it was just routine maintenance work. Also unknown at this time, is whether Kona Cafe will reopen with a new menu as the restaurant has been known to do in the past.

For now, a limited takeout menu is available for Guests to pick up favorite dishes at the nearby Kona Island, and some similar items can be ordered at the Tambu Lounge next to ‘Ohana, and downstairs at Capt. Cook’s, the Resort’s quick-service restaurant (including Tonga Toast!)

We will keep an eye out for updates on Kona Cafe as the restaurant prepares to reopen, and will back with additional information as we have it here on Disney Tips.
