Downtimes at rides and attractions can be inevitable at any theme park. While routine refurbishments are scheduled throughout the year to (ideally) keep up with maintenance to avoid later downtimes on attractions, unexpected issues can still occur.
One attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has experienced a surprising amount of downtime over the past week, with Guests finding the unfortunate “temporarily closed” note for almost seven full days in the My Disney Experience app.

Some of the best attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios can be found on Sunset Boulevard, which is home to hit rides and shows like the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Fantasmic!, Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage, and Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy.
The latter, Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy has now been experiencing unexpected downtime since December 28, 2022, according to the wait time screen listed in the My Disney Experience app and Thrill Data.

The show is the only attraction focused on Disney and Pixar’s Cars (2006), at least since Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show closed, which also featured Lightning McQueen. Disney has not released information on what is causing the extended downtime for Light McQueen’s Racing Academy, nor has the Park been able to confirm a reopening date.
If you are visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the near future, you can always check availability of Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy (or any Disney Park attractions) within the My Disney Experience app.

Disney’s official description of Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy reads:
Welcome Aspiring Racers
Learn what it takes to be a champion racer from the legendary Lightning McQueen at Sunset Showcase.
To kick things off, Lightning demonstrates what he’s learned over the years by using his brand-new, state-of-the-art racing simulator and its wraparound screen. Of course, as this seasoned racer has discovered throughout his career, things don’t always go according to plan, and he has to think fast to get back on course.
With Tow Mater, Cruz Ramirez and the gang from Radiator Springs rooting him on, Lightning gears up for the challenge. Will he emerge victorious? Speed on over to find out.
We will continue to monitor any unusual attraction issues across the Walt Disney World Resort and will report back with new information as it is available.
