Magic Kingdom & The Myth: A Park For Children Only at Walt Disney World

Many people seem to believe that Disney’s Magic Kingdom is only for kids. We can understand where they’re coming from. After all, the whimsy of the place does come across as quite childish. That said, the Magic Kingdom is actually just as fun for adults as it is for kids. Besides, we all could do with a little whimsy in our lives, right? Wondering what could possibly be fun for adults in this place that seems so geared toward the younger crowd? Here are 8 things we know you’ll love to do despite your “grownup” status.

1. Ride the Mountains

For the most part, Disney World rides are quite tame. That said, there are a few thrill rides scattered throughout the parks, and while they may not be the scariest out there, they are still tons of fun. Three of these thrill rides are located in the Magic Kingdom and are must-dos for all adults. Be sure to hop on Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Splash Mountain at least one time each!

2. Grab an Adult Beverage

For a long time, Magic Kingdom was completely void of alcohol. However, this is no longer the case, and finding a nice adult beverage is totally something every grown person should do during their time in Magic Kingdom. Wine and beer selections can be found at all of the sit-down restaurants located throughout the park. This means you can enjoy your beverage in the Beast’s castle, way back in the 1700s, or even at a jungle canteen.

3. Hit Up the Haunted Mansion

One Magic Kingdom ride that is quite possibly more fun for adults than kids is the Haunted Mansion. This slightly creepy dark ride has some seriously amazing details that often go unnoticed by little ones. On top of that, the dark humor found throughout is sure to please older audiences even as it slips right over the heads of the younger riders.

4. Shop at Memento Mori

Just outside of Haunted Mansion is an equally creepy (yet still funny) shop called Memento Mori. Many children may find this shop creepy, but adults are sure to appreciate the humor of the place, as well as the many unique souvenirs found here. Be sure to stop in and do a bit of shopping during your trip!

5. Sail with Pirates

Some of the best things about Magic Kingdom are all the older rides, which are so full of Disney magic and nostalgia. Of these, Pirates of the Caribbean is one of our favorites and is a must-ride for grownups. Why do we recommend this one for adults? Well, once again, the amazing attention to detail is sure to be appreciated by an older audience. Meanwhile, adults will be more likely to understand the references to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, as well as the storyline being presented.

6. Enjoy a Relaxing Meal

Generally speaking, theme park food is nothing to go crazy for. However, Disney World is the exception to this rule. The four Disney parks in Florida boast some of the best table-service eateries around, and Magic Kingdom alone is home to seven of those. For this reason, we highly recommend making a dining reservation and enjoying a good meal during your visit to the most magical place on earth.

7. Watch for Little Details

We mentioned details on specific rides earlier. However, it is important to note that the Disney Company is really good at putting interesting details throughout their parks. We feel this is especially true in Magic Kingdom, where each land is so intricately detailed that it actually feels as though you’re visiting six separate parks. Be sure to watch for the finer details—you never know what kinds of special Easter eggs you may find hidden around the next corner!

8. Steep Yourself in Nostalgia

Last but not least, every adult who grew up with Disney movies and/or parks is sure to love the nostalgia found in Magic Kingdom. This park is chock-full of favorite characters and older rides that bring back fond memories of days gone by. Besides all of that, Main Street, U.S.A. has a way of making us all nostalgic for the “good old days” even if we never actually lived through them. Enjoy this nostalgia by taking your time wandering through the parks and really soaking it all in!
