When Disney first secured the rights to bring Marvel characters into its parks, the company faced a challenge: how to translate cinematic blockbusters into real-world attractions without losing their larger-than-life appeal. Years later, the experiment has transformed into a global strategy.
From Anaheim to Paris, entire lands now revolve around the Avengers. Even EPCOT in Florida has leaned into the trend (albeit with more restrictions due to Universal’s own Marvel licensing deal in Orlando), introducing Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in 2022, a ride that became one of the park’s most ambitious projects to date. California Adventure, meanwhile, reimagined its once-scorned Tower of Terror as Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! — setting the stage for the launch of Avengers Campus in 2021.
With Europe and North America already in the fold, Disney has been preparing for the next step in Asia. That moment arrived this week, as Hong Kong Disneyland used its 20th anniversary celebration to debut concept art for what may become its boldest Marvel development yet.
Stark Expo Levels Up
The park’s Tomorrowland has long hosted Stark Expo, an area offering rides like Iron Man Experience and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle. Disney confirmed that the land will soon expand, anchored by a brand-new Spider-Man attraction.
The concept art suggests something on a much larger scale than a single ride. One rendering shows a towering building marked with the Avengers logo, while another highlights a facility called “Research Testing Labs.” Together, they hint at an overhaul that closely resembles Avengers Campus — even if Disney has yet to call it that outright.

The Spider-Man ride will see guests pulled into a chaotic showdown after Peter Parker’s inventions malfunction. Early images show riders traveling through a glowing portal alongside Thor, Doctor Strange, and Black Panther, with Asgard shimmering in the distance. Another piece of artwork shows Spidey mid-battle with Doc Ock, underscoring the scale of the ride’s narrative.
Hong Kong Disneyland’s Growing Portfolio
Since opening in 2005, Hong Kong Disneyland has steadily expanded to cater to both local audiences and international visitors.
The park has introduced unique offerings not found elsewhere, including Mystic Manor – a trackless ride that puts its own spin on the Haunted Mansion concept (without the heavy references to ghosts and death) and is beloved by fans worldwide – and, more recently, the world’s first World of Frozen. These investments have positioned the resort as a testing ground for Disney’s boldest new ideas, helping it compete in a region packed with theme park options.
For Hong Kong Disneyland, this expansion marks a strategic milestone. The park recently opened the world’s first World of Frozen and continues to rebuild its visitor base after pandemic closures. Adding Avengers-branded experiences aligns the resort with Disney’s global push to standardize Marvel offerings across its portfolio.
In Anaheim, Avengers Campus is in the middle of its own growth spurt. Two new attractions — Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab — are now under construction. Disney confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Tony Stark for Stark Flight Lab, a contrast to the Iron Man Experience in Hong Kong, where the character appears without his original actor’s voice.
Meanwhile, Florida’s Cosmic Rewind has already proven that Marvel can help reshape an entire park’s identity. Together with Mission: Breakout! in California and the Paris version of Avengers Campus, Disney is stitching together a global network of Marvel destinations designed to keep fans returning.
Hong Kong’s expansion doesn’t yet have an opening date, though the park’s railroad has closed to make room for construction. What is clear, however, is that Stark Expo is no longer just a corner of Tomorrowland. It’s evolving into something much larger — perhaps even the world’s third Avengers Campus in everything but name.
