A routine ride on Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway took a strange turn when the Disneyland Park attraction suddenly stopped mid-run, trapping guests in an eerie, seemingly endless motion sequence.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Stops Unexpectedly

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway debuted at Disneyland Park’s Toontown on January 27, 2023, nearly three years after its Walt Disney World Resort counterpart premiered at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The trackless dark ride brings guests into a whimsical animated world alongside Goofy, Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald, Daisy, and their friends.

Earlier this month, a Disneyland Resort guest found themselves in a particularly surreal situation when the attraction suddenly stalled, cutting off most of its special effects while leaving one unsettling feature fully operational.

TikTok user @duckvro captured the bizarre breakdown, in which animatronic Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto heads continued spinning around a mechanical tornado even after the rest of the ride had stopped.

The eerie mechanical whirring, combined with the frozen ride vehicles, created an unsettling experience for stranded guests.

Disney Parks Fans React to the Spooky Breakdown

@duckvro’s footage quickly garnered more than 40,000 likes, sparking a wave of reactions from Disney Parks fans.

Many users were captivated by the eerie, glitch-like visuals, with some saying the moment was creepier than the actual scene when the ride is fully operational.

“This is scarier than the real scene in this ride,” @pawstoheart commented.

“I thought the same!” @annxbt014 replied. “Very scary.”

Others took the opportunity to criticize Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway itself, saying it failed to live up to its predecessor at Walt Disney World Resort, The Great Movie Ride.

“That room needs a LOT more in it,” said @vecheeso. “I get the concept of it taking everything in but it’s a giant room with almost nothing interesting to see.”

“And they took out The Great Movie Ride for that junk,” @babadoodubbado lamented.

Disneyland Resort does not typically provide explanations for ride malfunctions, and this incident was no exception. The cause of the breakdown remains unclear, but Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway was eventually restarted and returned to normal operations.
