Disney Reveals New Details About Upcoming Affordable Housing Project

An affordable housing complex was announced by the Walt Disney World Resort in the spring of 2022, and new details have just been revealed, including when the community is expected to open.

In Disney’s initial announcement, we learned that nearly 80 acres of land had been set aside to create the new housing community that would become a part of Disney’s commitment to supporting residents in Central Florida. Now, we are able to share more information on the project and the impact it could have on the areas surrounding Walt Disney World.

On April 19, 2023, the Disney Parks Blog shared that the new complex would,

….Create a new affordable and attainable housing development for our community. This type of land contribution is unique and is one of many ways we are making a lasting impact in Central FloridaWe are also expanding our vision to now include approximately 1,400 total units – over 100 higher than we had initially announced.

Along with the additional 100 units now included in the project, Disney confirmed that the community is expected to open in 2026.

Development of the property will be done by the Michaels Organization, a major developing firm that will also operate the housing complex once it is complete.

The community will be located nearby the Magic Kingdom, where residents will be able to enjoy the amenities and recreation that come with the Flamingo Crossings Town Center along with nearby schools, retail, and restaurants. In keeping with the “affordable and attainable” elements of the community, residents must be within a certain income range that has not yet been shared.

Disney’s steps to create affordable housing in Central Florida is just the latest piece of the company’s commitment to supporting the local community. The Walt Disney World Resort is now a supporter of the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, which is also one of the primary locations for Cast Members to volunteer at under Disney’s VoluntEARS program.
