As part of the Disney Decades collection, this 50s-inspired selection of bags, plush, and accessories celebrates the films of the 1950s. Similar to the 20s collection that featured Steamboat Willie, the 30s collection with Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar, and the 40s collection starring Pinocchio, this one features movies and characters made famous in a particular decade.

Cinderella Loungefly

Among the many items featured as part of the 1950s-themed decade is the Cinderella loungefly mini backpack. The front panel displays different moments of Cinderella’s beautiful transformation with her Fairy Godmother and animal friends. The film Cinderella (1950) was Disney’s 12th animated film and helped dig the company out of a $4 million slump (about $51 million today if adjusted for inflation).

The Shaggy Dog

Another 1950s classic was The Shaggy Dog (1959) starring Tommy Kirk, who also starred in other Disney films of the time, such as Old Yeller (1957), Swiss Family Robinson (1960), and The Absent-Minded Professor (1961). Disney is honoring the film with The Shaggy Dog Plush dressed in his letterman sweater and fedora.

Hold That Pose

Disney also offers the Goofy and Humphrey Bear Pin, based on the cartoon short “Hold That Pose” (1950). The trading pin features Goofy as a photographer attempting to capture images of Humphrey Bear. Although many may not be familiar with Humphrey Bear, he did have a brief cameo in Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018), where he can be spotted dancing and picking up trash.

These limited-time items will be available at shopDisney.com starting Monday, May 15. And soon after, we can expect Disney to announce when the 60s-themed merchandise will be released (followed by the 70s, 80s, etc.)

About Steven Wilk

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
