It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s another Disney live-action movie? In the last few years, Disney has been in the business of remakes. Disney is known for some of the most iconic animated films like Aladdin (1992), Mulan (1998), and The Little Mermaid (1989). All three of these Disney classics have since been made into live-action films, with mixed reviews from fans.

While Disney fans love the classic tales story has told us over the years, remakes don’t do as well as the originals. The Walt Disney Company seemingly enjoys reinventing original stories, but many fans feel the “why fix what’s not broken” saying is intended for live-action remakes. Although the remake of Aladdin, released in 2019, received a 94% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, fans are quite vocal about their interest in new stories rather than rehashing old ones.

With that said, it’s also ironic to note that The Little Mermaid (2023), starring Halle Bailey, had one of the largest streams on Disney+ within the first week of it being available on the streaming service. So, although fans may not want the live-action, it’s not like they won’t watch it at least once or twice. Regardless, there are some films fans would gladly welcome a second or maybe even entertain the idea of a live-action remake.

A perfect example is when Disney released Hocus Pocus 2 (2022), nearly thirty years after the original Hocus Pocus (1993). There are some characters; no matter how long ago the story began, fans want to see the creativity in their continuing story. In the same theme of Halloween, a rumor has been swirling around the internet about another popular holiday classic.

Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) is celebrating its 30th anniversary this October; fans are ecstatic about the celebration. As we’ve previously reported, Disney is re-releasing the film in theaters on October 20, 2023. Though the Halloween and Christmas-themed film is a holiday favorite, fans loved the idea of a live-action remake that has become a lot of chatter online.

So what’s the scoop? Is Tim Burton’s iconic tale coming to life in a live-action version? “Starring unforgettable characters who are now forged deep within Disney lore, like Jack Skellington, Sally, and Oogie Boogie, The Nightmare Before Christmas is an exemplary feat of visual flawlessness, woven together to a beautifully composed soundtrack by famed composer Danny Elfman,” as Disney Dining so perfectly puts it.

The film is beloved, but would a live-action also be a fan favorite? The truth is that Disney has not commented on a live-action remake of The Nightmare Before Christmas, thus making it nothing more than a rumor right now. “While the rumor has been going around, the origin of the rumor was a satirical post from Inside the Magic, in a post that was written expressly for April Fool’s Day to have a little fun with audiences,” as Disney Fanatic reported.

Although it’s only been a rumor, fans have loved the idea of it coming to life in an entirely new way. Fans went as far as agreeing Johnny Depp would be a perfect fit for the role of the Pumpkin King. If you’ve seen his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean (2003), he’d be a great cast for the part. Of course, if the live-action were to happen, Disney would be the first to release the news, with Disney Tips quickly to follow for all the Jack Skellington fans!
