Cannes Film Festival brought some unexpected drama on Friday—not from the film itself, but from the red carpet moment that had everyone talking.
During the premiere of Eddington (2025), Emma Stone (La La Land) found herself in a tiny but unnerving predicament: an uninvited guest buzzed dangerously close—a bee.
As Stone, 36, posed alongside her co-stars Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Austin Butler (Elvis) for photographs, the small insect caused a brief moment of panic. Emma recoiled, but thankfully, Pascal, 50, was right there. With quick reflexes, he swatted the bee away, while Butler blew toward it in an attempt to disperse the threat.
Variety shared the clip on X (formerly Twitter):

It’s heart-warming to see Pascal step in for his fellow star, embodying the kind of camaraderie that’s often missed behind the spotlight. Cannes might be about the films, but sometimes it’s these candid moments that make the headlines.
The little interruption passed without anyone getting stung, but it was a reminder that even the glitz of Cannes can’t protect stars from nature’s surprises.

The film itself, Eddington, directed by Ari Aster (Hereditary), boasts an impressive cast. Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) and Pedro Pascal take center stage in a tense western drama set in a small New Mexico town. Phoenix plays a sheriff locked in a “powder keg” standoff against Pascal’s mayor, setting the stage for a clash that pits neighbor against neighbor.
Beyond this red-carpet moment, there’s something else that reunites Pascal and Stone: Marvel. Pascal is gearing up to portray Dr. Reed Richards, AKA Mister Fantastic, in the much-anticipated MCU film The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), while Stone’s Marvel credentials go way back to her portrayal of Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man series, starring opposite Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
Eddington hits theaters on July 18, just one week before The Fantastic Four: First Steps opens on July 25.
