A Pirate’s Life
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Mexican actor Sergio Calderón died at 77 earlier this week in a Los Angeles hospital in the company of his loved ones. His career in Hollywood spanned more than 40 films over multiple decades, in addition to having roles in the original Men in Black (1997) opposite Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, as well as the movie Little Fockers (2010).

However, one of his most famous roles was as Captain Eduardo Villanueva, the Pirate Lord of the Adriatic Sea in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007). His character shared his piece of eight with fellow Pirate Lords in a conclave within the secret Shipwreck Cove.

While working on the film, Calderón worked with A-list actors like Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp and icons like Keith Richards, who played Captain Edward Teague.

Calderón’s 40 Film Career
Sergio Calderón was born in Mexico in 1945 and studied at the Instituto Andrés Soler of the Asociación Nacional de Actores. Although he was not necessarily a household name, he was an actor who appeared in many films and television shows going back to the 1970s. Throughout his legendary acting career, he worked with many famous actors, including Johnny Depp, Albert Finney, Tommy Lee Jones, and many others.

He died of natural causes, according to a family spokesperson. Sergio Calderón was 77 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Dakin; children Patrick Calderón-Dakin and Johanna Calderón-Dakin, vice president of the PR firm The Mesulam Group; son-in-law Raaj; and grandchildren Krishnaavi, Emiliano, and Victoria.
