Since the nostalgic attraction, Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, rides through the Space Mountain building, it too was evacuated and closed as the Space Mountain fire alarm was activated.
First reports shared Reedy Creek Fire Department responded to the incident quickly:
Thankfully, Cast Members and Disney Park Guests were in good hands as evacuations went as planned. The culprit of the incident? According to Orlando Sentinel and an official union statement, the Disney fire department concluded a smoking refrigerator in the Space Mountain break room set off the fire alarm, causing the evacuation of the two Magic Kingdom attractions.
Multiple Reedy Creek Professional Firefighters responded to the incident, but only one engine arrived after a Cast Member saw and confirmed that it was the refrigerator smoke that caused the fire alarm. A firefighter simply unplugged the smoking refrigerator while other fire department units (including Orange County Fire Rescue) were canceled.
