For most guests, a Disney Cruise is a dream vacation. But for a handful of unfortunate travelers, a recent voyage turned into an experience they’d rather forget.
Disney Cruise Line is known for blending luxury with the signature magic found in its theme parks. Each ship offers something unique, from the elegant Disney Wish to the newest addition, the Disney Treasure. Disney aims to create an unforgettable trip—one where every detail is carefully managed. But even on a Disney Cruise, things don’t always go according to plan.
Sewage Issue Causes Chaos on Disney Cruise Line
A guest recently took to Reddit to share a particularly unpleasant experience on the Disney Magic.
“What compensation would you find acceptable for having a sewage backup in your room?” they asked. “It was a ship issue and affected multiple rooms, no alternate rooms available. Poop on the carpet. Cleaned and dealt with immediately but so gross.”
Yes, multiple rooms allegedly experienced a sewage backup, leaving some guests in an unthinkable situation. As others pointed out, plumbing problems on ships can often be traced to guests flushing items they shouldn’t. However, the affected passenger claimed this wasn’t the case, as well as stating, “I don’t think the surface level clean they did was sufficient (a 15 min clean of a carpeted surface that had feces) and they were not able to move us to another room.”
The guest also noted that the issue persisted, with fans running in the hallway two days later to address the problem. “No amount of cleaning makes this not gross,” they added.
While Disney Cruise Line is generally praised for its high standards, this incident highlights how even the most carefully managed vacations can be derailed by unexpected setbacks.
Other Unusual Incidents on Disney Vacations
This isn’t the first time Disney guests have encountered unexpected issues. Over the years, travelers have shared stories of bizarre and frustrating experiences at both Disney Cruise Line and the theme parks.
Earlier this year, a Walt Disney World guest returned to their hotel room only to find all of their belongings had been removed. The hotel had automatically checked them out after detecting they had left the property, leaving them scrambling to retrieve their things.
In another case, a guest at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort claimed they were injured when their wall-mounted bed collapsed on them. A similar issue led Disney to issue warnings at Disney’s Riviera Resort, urging guests to avoid using certain fold-down beds after safety concerns were raised.
Even Disney Cruise Line has had its share of mishaps. Before the Disney Treasure officially welcomed guests, a press event took an unexpected turn when a fire alarm triggered the ship’s sprinkler system, flooding the atrium. Later, while en route from Europe to the U.S., the ship was involved in an emergency rescue, saving four people stranded on a sinking catamaran.
While these incidents are rare, they serve as a reminder that no vacation is completely immune to the unexpected – even those overseen by the Mouse.
