Shanghai Disneyland to Reopen Following the Latest Surge in COVID-19 Cases

The days of the COVID-19 pandemic are not yet behind us as variants of the virus continue to surge and cause illness and disruptions to daily life around the world. While many areas of Disney theme parks have reopened, and especially stateside we have seen a lot of attractions and experiences return to normal, other locations are still in the process of reopening.

Shanghai Disney Resort originally closed on March 21, 2022, when the city began experiencing increases in COVID-19 cases following the rise of the omicron variant. Shangai entered another lockdown at this time that varied based on where residents lived, and limited travel and recreational activities, including visiting Disneyland.

Disney confirmed on the Resort’s website that the theme park will reopen to Guests after its latest three-month closure on June 30, 2022, with tickets available beginning tomorrow, June 29, 2022.

When Guests return to Shanghai Disney Resort, they will find many precautions in place for their safety as well as for the health and safety of other Guests and Cast Members. Many of these additional precautions were used earlier in the pandemic, including the requirement for Guests to provide a negative PCR test result from the past 72 hours to enter the park.

Disney has proved more cautious than other entertainment venues in the area, which according to the Hollywood Reporter had been permitted to open since June 1, 2022, with Universal Studios reopening earlier this week on June 25, 2022.

Major cities in China have been reporting decreasing numbers of COVID cases throughout the past couple of weeks, with no new cases reported in both Shanghai and Beijing at the same time for the first time since February 2022.
