We love a good Disney birthday celebration, and at Disney’s Animal Kingdom the festivities are not limited to Guests and Cast Members. Sohni, one of the Sumatran Tigers that resides at the Disney Park, recently celebrated her 11th birthday with decorations and enrichment activities and Cast Members from Animal Kingdom were able to share some photos!
If Sohni sounds familiar, you might recognize her from her streaming career! She was the tiger featured in the fourth episode of The Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom documentary series that is currently streaming on Disney+.
In addition to her role on the Disney+ series, Sohni has been instrumental in Disney’s tiger breeding initiatives under the Species Survival Plan instituted by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
In 2017, Sohni and Malosi, another one of the Park’s tigers were actively breeding, with Sohni giving birth to cubs the following year. The Species Survival Plan is one of the way’s that the AZA accreditation at Disney’s Animal Kingdom works to support animals both inside the Park and in the wild at their natural habitats.
Sumatran Tigers are just one of the species whose numbers in the wild are supported by the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, with roughly $2.5 million of funds being allocated annually toward iniatives that work with these beautiful animals.
Be sure to visit Sohni and the other Sumatran Tigers during your next trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Maharajah Jungle Trek. Also on the Maharajah Jungle Trek, located in the Asia section of the park, Guests can spot exotic birds, bats, water buffalo, a komodo dragon, and more.
Happy Birthday, Sohni!
