Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Doubles Wait Times; Guests Lined Up for Five Hours

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is one of the most popular attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and at Walt Disney World as a whole. The star attraction of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge operated solely on a difficult-to-score virtual queue and boarding pass system until November of last year, with many Guests thankful for the ability to wait in the standby queue to experience the ride.

That wait turned sour, though, for Guests visiting the attraction earlier today who experienced double the posted wait time when the ride experienced some unexpected downtime, ultimately leaving Guests in the queue for five hours.

DisneyFanatic.com broke the story after speaking to the Guest identified by her initials, C.B. According to C.B., the posted wait time when her party entered the queue at 10:30 a.m. was two-and-a-half hours.

For many Guests, any wait time over two hours may be too long of a queue for an attraction, but shortly after park opening, this has become the norm for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

C.B. shared that she and the other Guests around her in line spent nearly four extra hours waiting in line, due to what she later found out was apparently a 30-minute breakdown that left the attraction operating at half-capacity.

While speaking to our team, she shared her thoughts saying, “If they had gone on the intercom and told us ‘we apologize for the delay, we’re running at half capacity now,’ we would have gotten out of the line.” For their troubles, C.B.’s family was given complimentary Lightning Lane passes valid for every ride in the park except for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and unfortunately, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

They were finally able to experience the attraction at 3:30 p.m., and after a chat with Guest Relations, the family received complimentary Lightning Lane passes valid at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, and the Magic Kingdom. (The Lightning Lane passes were the family’s choice- They were also offered next-day admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios as an option.)

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

It is unclear what exactly caused the downtime and backup that followed at Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance earlier today, but Guests are understandably finding themselves exhausted at the current planning process required for a trip to Walt Disney World, so any added wait times can certainly put a damper on an otherwise magical day in the Parks.

If Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is at the top of your must-do list while exploring Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, we recommend getting to Disney’s Hollywood Studios early (during early theme park entry for resort Guests if you can) and heading straight for the attraction before experiencing other areas of the park or opt to purchase individual Lightning Lane for the ride if available.
