For 25 years, Test Track has been an EPCOT fan favorite, and Disney is ready to take the high-speed attraction into the future. As part of a major overhaul, Walt Disney Imagineering is working with General Motors to transform the ride, and fans are finally getting a glimpse at what’s in store.
A New Chapter for Test Track
During D23 Expo 2024, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro announced that Test Track would be receiving a full reimagining. General Motors, the attraction’s original sponsor, has teamed up with Walt Disney Imagineering to bring an innovative new look and feel to this beloved World Discovery ride.
Test Track has already undergone one major update in its history. The ride originally opened in 1999 as a simulated automotive proving ground, allowing guests to experience rough terrain, extreme braking, and high-speed performance testing. In 2012, Disney reimagined it into Test Track 2.0, shifting the focus toward futuristic car design and digital simulations. Chevrolet replaced General Motors as the official sponsor, although General Motors is Chevrolet’s parent company.
Now, Test Track is evolving once again. Disney has confirmed that the reimagined attraction—now officially called Test Track Presented by General Motors—will debut in late summer 2025 with updated ride vehicles and a refreshed storyline.
A Look at Construction Progress
Although Walt Disney World Resort has not shared full details about the new Test Track experience, the attraction is well on its way to its next iteration. Earlier this month, Walt Disney Imagineering offered Disney Parks fans a sneak peek inside the project, sharing an Instagram video highlighting the work in progress as part of Women in Construction Week. In the clip, an Imagineer gave a behind-the-scenes look at the Test Track overhaul.

On Tuesday, WDWNT reported that major exterior updates are underway. Crews have added weather-proofing materials to the entrance overhang, though decorative panels and finishing touches have yet to be installed. Scaffolding still surrounds much of the building’s front.
One big question remains: what will the new Test Track signage look like? Disney removed the old Test Track sign last year, and while Walt Disney Imagineering filed a permit for installing new signage in January, it’s unclear if the replacement will return to its original location or move elsewhere. Construction walls remain in place for now, and caution tape marks off work areas as updates continue.
What’s Next for Test Track?
While Disney has only confirmed a broad “late summer 2025” reopening, excitement is building as Imagineering continues teasing changes behind the scenes. With structural updates progressing and new details emerging, the next era of Test Track is getting closer to reality.
