The Princess and the Frog (2009) will making its way to both Walt Disney World and Disneyland in a brand new attraction in Frontierland, and we are hearing reports that the new ride may have both a name and an opening timeframe.
The schedule for this weekend’s Essence Festival of Culture, which is taking place in New Orleans through July 3, 2022, included a panel with Disney about the new Princess and the Frog attraction that had been previously announced for Disney Parks.
The ride is set to replace Splash Mountain in both the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Park, with the track of the ride remaining the same and all other elements being totally re-themed to the Disney animated film.
During a panel earlier today at the Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans, Disney shared that the ride officially has a name, and will be called “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure”. A timeframe was also mentioned at today’s panel, which like a previous comment on the ride by voice of Tiana, Anika Noni Rose, is also set for a 2024 opening date at Walt Disney World and at Disneyland.
The all-new theme park attraction is being led by Charita Carter, senior creative producer at Walt Disney Imagineering, who has already been busy developing an immersive storyline for the thrill ride picking up where the film left off.
During the announcement from Disney, Charita Carter shared:
In many ways, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a love letter to New Orleans. Like the musical city that inspired this attraction, Tiana’s second act is about a community working in harmony to achieve something extraordinary. She reminds us of an immutable truth we can all relate to: ‘if you do your best each and every day, good things are sure to come your way.’ And that’s a melody we can all sing along to!
Imagineers have also bene hard at work research all aspects of New Orleans, the setting for the new attraction. Disney shared a glimpse at what the research for the ride has been like in the video below:
Guests riding the new attraction will enter the story after the final kiss between Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen, where they will then join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure through New Orleans in preparation for their first Mardi Gras performance.
Disney has not yet shared additional details on “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure,” nor has the company shared information on the closing date for Splash Mountain, but we will keep you updated here on DisneyTips as we learn more.
