After multiple delays and reshoots, Marvel Studios’ The Marvels (2023) will be coming to cinemas on November 10. The movie follows Captain Marvel / Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) in an ensemble movie where the three heroes’ superpowers become intertwined.

The Marvel movie seems to be getting lukewarm responses in the comic book and Avengers’ fan base. Part of the lack of excitement comes from the polarization surrounding Brie Larson. But another aspect is that the two other superheroes are not that well known and, more so, require viewers to have previously watched multiple Disney Plus series to understand the characters, their powers, and their backstory.

Ms. Marvel, otherwise known as Kamala Khan, had her own Disney Plus series exploring her character and origin story. So if you’re interested in seeing The Marvels (2023), you have to familiarize yourself with not only the Disney Plus series that introduces two of the main characters but also familiarize yourself with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), who will be in the film as well.

The New Trailer

The new film’s trailer, released by Marvel Studios, shows all three female heroes as they experience bizarre reactions every time they attempt to use their powers. The movie’s villain, Dar-Benn’s motivation is getting revenge back at Captain Marvel by entangling the powers of the three women. Each time one of the three uses their power, they swap locations.

On Twitter, the Marvel movie is already getting a mixed response. But after the poor box office numbers in with the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), which failed to even break even, it will be interesting to see if this Captain Marvel sequel can end the trend.

About Steven Wilk

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
