Hurricane season has officially begun! Since the beginning of the season start on June 1, 2022, we’ve seen the first tropical storm take aim at Florida which brought heavy rainfall. Now, a new tropical alert has been released as “Bonnie” may be on the way.
2022 hurricane predictions are reporting a busy season for 2022 from June 1 until November 30, 2022. Floridians are used to the storms and most of the time have no issues with staying put unless through tropical weather unless these storms work themselves up into categorized hurricanes.
Now, reports from the National Hurricane Center are showing a tropical wave off the African coast is heading this way. On Thursday, June 23, the wave first emerged and may develop into a tropical depression or storm within the next five days.
Currently, NHC reports the odds of the wave becoming a tropical depression or storm within five days is at 60%, with a 20% chance of the storm developing within the next two days. As of Friday morning, June 24, the wave continues to move west between 15 and 20 mph, as the NHC keeps an eye on its development and projections.
If the wave decides to strengthen into a tropical storm, it will be given the name “Bonnie” and titled the second named storm of the 2022 hurricane season.
If you have plans in the near future to visit Walt Disney World Resort or the surrounding Central Florida theme parks, it’s always good to have a hurricane plan – especially if traveling during the hurricane season.
It’s also helpful to know which attractions operate in heavy rain at the Disney Parks, as well as how to prepare for a rainy day at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
We’ll be keeping an eye on this wave as it hopefully weakens rather than the projected development, and keep Disney fans updated as we learn more!
