2022 is going to be a fantastic year to experience a magical trip to Walt Disney World. We have some of the top experiences you can look forward to when it comes to a trip to Disney World in 2022.
50th Anniversary
2022 will bring along with it the 50th Anniversary celebration. The celebration will begin on October 1st, 2021; however, Disney has already announced that guests can enjoy the magical celebration throughout 2022. From new costumes for our favorite mouse and friends to fun merchandise celebrating this huge event, we are so happy that we will have all of 2022 to enjoy the celebration.
50 Gold Statues
Part of the 50th Anniversary celebration are the 50 gold character statues. Throughout all four theme parks guests will be able to find a variety of unique gold statues featuring some of our favorite Disney and Pixar characters. These statues are a great way to interact with the 50th anniversary as you look to find them throughout the parks
All Resorts Opened
When we enter 2022 it will be with all of the Disney World resorts opened for the first time since March 2020. Disney World has slowly been opening resorts as the demand for more accommodations rose. The last resort to open will be Disney’s All Star Sports Resort which will be opening on December 9th, 2021. We are beyond thrilled to have all the amazing Disney resorts opened and welcoming guests once again.
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
During spring of 2022 guests will be able to enjoy a 2-night, immersive adventure on board the fantastic Galactic Starcruiser. This all inclusive experience will transport guests into the movies like never before as they travel on their own Star Wars adventure. Not only will guests have a fantastic time onboard, but they will experience a trip to Batuu as they visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We can’t wait to see what this experience will be like.
New Transportation
Something that guests visiting Walt Disney World in 2022 will need to process is transportation to and from the airport. As of January 1st, 2022, Disney’s Magical Express (the free transportation to and from Orlando International Airport and Disney resorts) will be suspended. There are a variety of options from private transfers as well as MEARS. Those with little ones will definitely want to process this change to make sure they are comfortable with their transportation option.
New Early Theme Park Entrance
Going into 2022, those guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort as well as select other hotels will be able to enjoy extra time in the four Disney theme parks. Each morning, guests of these resorts will be able to enter the theme parks 30-minutes early. This is an adjustment to previous extra magic hours that only were in one specific resort per day. This new offer will allow guests to make those park pass reservations and then enjoy that park for an extra hour in the morning.
Evening Hours For Deluxe Resorts
Also coming for resort guests is extended evening theme park hours. Guests staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort or a Disney Deluxe Villa Resort will have extended evening hours at Epcot and Disney’s Magic Kingdom on select evenings. Guests will be able to enjoy at least two if not three extra hours in the evening. This will be a great way to have some extended time at the parks in the evenings.
New Rides
2022 will be exciting as new rides arrive throughout the parks. In the Magic Kingdom, we are looking forward to the TRON Lightcycle Run coming! We have anxiously watched as construction has taken shape bringing this new coaster to Tomorrowland. Although we don’t have a specific opening date, 2022 is looking good. Also with a hopeful opening in 2022 is Guardians of the Galaxy: Comic Rewind in Epcot. Both of these rides are sure to be thrilling and we can’t wait to experience them.
Genie, Genie+ and Lightning Lane
A big change coming to Walt Disney World will be Genie, Genie+ as well as Lightning Lane. These three new aspects of My Disney Experience are set to help guests better their vacations. Genie is a free planning aspect that will help guests travel throughout the parks with low wait times. For $15/day/guest, Genie+ will be able to be added to your park ticket. With this system, guests will be able to choose next available ride times while in the parks, limiting their wait times as they use the new LIghtning Lane access (former Fastpass+ line). Finally, some rides will not be available through Genie+ so guests will be able to purchase individual rides for an additional cost. Although we don’t know the specifics of this, we do know that Rise of the Resistance as well as Flight of Passage will be on this list.
Possible Dining Plan?
Something we are hoping will return in 2022 is Disney’s Dining Plan. So many guests were a fan of the dining plans offered by Disney as it allowed them to have a more all inclusive feel to their vacation experience. We aren’t sure when these will return or what they will look like upon returning; however, we are super hopeful that 2022 will be the year.
2022 is set out to be a fantastic year at Walt Disney World. From the 50th anniversary celebration to new rides and experiences coming, we can’t wait to visit in 2022. We hope this list helps you better prepare for a wonderful 2022 vacation to Walt Disney World.
