Live-action remakes have been a hot topic of discussion lately among the Disney community, with fans excited about the upcoming Lilo & Stitch (2002) remake and other stories in the works. One of the latest films Disney enthusiasts are looking forward to is the Hercules (1997) remake, announced just last month.

Well, we have the latest details about the upcoming movie, straight from its producers, Joe and Anthony Russo. According to IGN, the producing partners aim to honor the classic version while also putting a “modern spin” on the mythological tale.

One of the features of the original Hercules film that brought viewers so much enjoyment was the humorous aspect of the story. While the remake will take inspiration from the classic animated feature, the Russo brothers have warned fans that it will not be a replica of its predecessor.

The story will be different, incorporating new elements, which will make the film unique and fresh for audiences. Guy Ritchie is set to direct the movie, which is fitting, seeing that he already has one successful live-action remake under his belt.

He previously directed Disney’s retelling of Aladdin (2019), starring Will Smith, which grossed over one billion dollars at the box office. Other recent live-action Disney remakes include Beauty and the Beast (2017), Cinderella (2015), and Mulan (2020).

Along with Hercules and Lilo & Stitch, Disney fans have several other live-action remakes to look forward to in the coming years. Disney is already working on remakes of The Little Mermaid (1989) and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937).

In the original story, Hercules grows up on earth while retaining his god-like powers. Once he discovers his true identity, he is told that in order to return to Mount Olympus, he has to become a true hero, which he does!

We can’t wait to see what Guy Ritchie and the Russo brothers will come up with for the new Hercules film. If it’s anything like the other remakes, Disney fans will surely be happy with the results.
