Disney animated movie Lilo & Stitch (2002) became an instant success upon its debut, with Stitch enduring as one of the most popular characters in Disney history. In 2020, Disney announced that a new live-action Lilo & Stitch film was in the works, much to the excitement of loyal fans.
Disney has consistently released an abundance of live-action films for several years now. Aladdin (1992), Lady and the Tramp (1955), Mulan (1998), and The Lion King (1994) are just a few of the many animated classics that Disney reworked into live-action form.
Seeing some of their favorite classic Disney movies transformed this way has left fans pining for more. While much is still unknown about the Lilo & Stitch remake, we have a few new details to get you excited about its upcoming release, which is expected on May 10, 2024, according to IMDb.
Variety just announced that a director has been chosen! The filmmaker behind the indie comedy Marcel the Shell With Shoes On (2021) Dean Fleischer Camp, is set to direct the film.
Camp is no stranger to the live-action/CG hybrid genre. His indie comedy, which tells the charming tale of a snail on an adventure into the human world, was created in this format.
Disney has yet to announce a screenwriter and supporting cast for the remake, although IMDb lists Chris Sanders as the star voice talent. Sanders voiced Stitch in the animated classic, in addition to writing and directing the film along with Dean DeBlois.
