Wonder Why You Have to Wait So Long at Orlando International Airport?

Families travel from all over the world to visit Central Florida. We have some of the most famous theme parks, including Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Orlando, and SeaWorld. For some, Central Florida is within driving distance, but worldwide most people will fly into Orlando.

There have been so many changes to the Orlando International Airport over the years. They’ve remodeled, and they are even building a third terminal. This is perfect timing because Orlando International Airport is now the seventh busiest airport in the United States.

Although COVID-19 canceled many people’s plans, travel is back up and we are seeing many Guests again. Over the past year, Orlando has moved from the ninth busiest airport to the seventh.

The Orlando International Airport is still the busiest airport in Florida. 40.9 million passengers traveled through MCO in 2021. This is up 86 percent from 2020. It has still not reached pre-pandemic levels, though. In 2019 MCO saw 50.6 million passengers come through.

Domestic travel went up 92 percent from 2020, and international travel increased 20.5 percent.

 

Carson Good, Chairman of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority shared in a statement:  “When the pandemic first hit, many predicted it would take several years to recover. By continuing airport operations and construction of the South terminal, our board demonstrated confidence in Central Florida’s amazing resilience and 2021 turned out much better than anyone expected. I expect 2022 to be another year of growth for Orlando and the region.”

There is something special about Orlando International Airport. When you arrive, you see so many different things around you, like Disney and Universal signs and merchandise, which gets you more and more excited about your vacation. When you’re leaving, it’s a different story. It’s sad knowing that you’re about to head back to the real world.
