Industry chatter points to a significant age shift for the next James Bond on the big screen, as Variety recently reported that Amazon MGM and the film’s producers are reportedly narrowing their search to British actors who have yet to hit their 30th birthday.

Three performers are rumored to be in consideration: Jacob Elordi (Saltburn), Tom Holland (Spider-Man: No Way Home), and Harris Dickinson (Babygirl).

Interestingly, while the cinematic Bond remains undecided, the role has already been filled in another format.

Irish actor Patrick Gibson, known for his role as a young Dexter Morgan in the Paramount+ series Dexter: Original Sin (2024), has stepped into Bond’s shoes for the upcoming video game “007 First Light”.

Scheduled for release next year, the game will follow a pre-00 Bond on a mission that earns him his iconic double-zero status.

Gibson is currently 30 years old, placing him near the transitional point between Millennial and Gen Z demographics. That still makes him one of the youngest Bonds overall—though George Lazenby, who filmed On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969) at 29, holds the record for youngest actor to portray 007 in a feature film.

The James Bond movie reboot will be helmed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049, Dune), with Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) handling writing duties.

If the casting rumors are true, the next film could present a marked contrast from the most recent era led by Daniel Craig, whose portrayal ran from Casino Royale (2006) to No Time to Die (2021).

A younger Bond could shift the character’s on-screen persona, opening the door to stories about a less experienced agent navigating MI6 for the first time, similar to “007 First Light”.

At the same time, it’s a gamble that could divide fans accustomed to seeing an older, more seasoned spy.

There’s no confirmed release date yet, but Variety also reports that Amazon MGM is reportedly aiming for a 2028 premiere.

  1. I would prefer to see Daniel Craig return. Even an older Daniel Craig Bond would be welcome. Bond could have escaped death in “No Time To Die” by jumping into a secure bunker. There are many more stories that could be told.

  2. I think James Bond should a tall handsome man. Not saying Tom Holland isn’t handsome just looks young and shorter. Sorry Tom
