James Bond is about to be rebooted twice — but one of those reboots is set to reach audiences long before the other.
While Amazon MGM’s untitled Bond film from Denis Villeneuve (Dune: Part Two) and Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) moves quietly through development, IO Interactive is busy preparing “007 First Light”, a new video game that will put players in the shoes of a young Bond.
The third-person action-adventure will follow the agent before he earns his 00 status, blending cinematic storytelling with espionage gameplay. Set for release on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows in 2026, “First Light” will be the first major Bond game since 2012’s poorly received “007 Legends”. For months, fans have speculated about the game’s lead actor. Many suspected it was Irish star Patrick Gibson, known for portraying a young Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Original Sin (2024). IO has remained silent, with franchise director Jonathan Lacaille recently telling RadioTimes.com that the reveal would come later this summer.
But that timeline has just been cut short.
In a recent Screen Rant Plus interview, British actor Lennie James — who’s playing Bond’s mentor Greenway in “First Light” — confirmed both his own and Gibson’s involvement outright. “I really enjoyed doing my time in the game, kind of acting through those scenes with Paddy [Patrick] Gibson, who plays Bond,” he said.

That one comment ends months of speculation: Patrick Gibson is 007 — at least in this version of the franchise.
And given that “First Light” will be released before Villeneuve’s film hits theaters, it technically makes Gibson the first actor to headline a post–Daniel Craig Bond reboot.
With no release date yet for the film, all eyes are now on “First Light”, which will officially kick off Bond’s next era — starting in the world of gaming.

I would prefer to see Daniel Craig return. Evan an older Daniel Craig Bond would be welcome. Bond could have escaped death in “No Time To Die” by jumping into a secure bunker.
