Disney Announces Parade Overhaul as Beloved Tradition Nears Its End

One of Disney’s most recognizable parades is entering its final chapter, but there’s a surprise ahead.

Disney’s theme park parades can stick around for decades, although their schedules often change. At Magic Kingdom, Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade has operated since 2014, while Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away joined the park’s nighttime entertainment lineup in 2025.

Both are accompanied by seasonal offerings throughout the year. Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade takes over during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, while Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade returns for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.

Other Disney resorts follow a similar approach, temporarily removing their regular parades to accommodate special events. One park has just begun its annual Christmas entertainment season, meaning its usual daytime procession won’t be seen again until January.

However, when it does return, Disney is planning something different.

Disney Prepares to Retire Long-Running Parade

Disneyland Paris is preparing to say goodbye to Disney Stars on Parade, which has been entertaining guests at Disneyland Park since March 26, 2017.

Introduced for the resort’s 25th anniversary, the parade replaced Disney Magic on Parade and introduced new floats inspired by some of the company’s biggest animated films.

Its lineup includes characters from Frozen (2013), Peter Pan (1953), Toy Story (1995), and The Lion King (1994). There’s also an enormous steampunk-inspired Maleficent dragon, which breathes real fire as it travels through the park.

The procession traditionally begins near “it’s a small world” before making its way past Sleeping Beauty Castle, through Central Plaza, and down Main Street, U.S.A. to Town Square.

While Disney Stars on Parade remains popular, it hasn’t been without its problems. Missing floats and malfunctioning effects have occasionally disrupted performances, including issues involving the Peter Pan section of the parade.

After nearly a decade, Disney is officially preparing its replacement.

In August 2026, Disneyland Paris announced that a completely new daytime parade will debut in 2028, marking the first major replacement for its regular daytime procession since 2017.

The production will feature new floats, costumes, and music, with confirmed characters including Genie and Jasmine from Aladdin (1992), Tiana from The Princess and the Frog (2009), Rapunzel from Tangled (2010), and Miguel from Coco (2017).

Disney says the project has already involved more than 10,000 hours of research and technical development, alongside approximately 225 costume, wig, and makeup sketches.

An exact opening date has not been announced, leaving some uncertainty over when Disney Stars on Parade will perform for the final time. Its upcoming return could mark the start of its final full year at Disneyland Paris.

Disney Expands Parade Schedule for January 2027

Despite its approaching retirement, Disney Stars on Parade is set to receive a significant schedule expansion in the new year.

According to the Disneyland Paris app, as reported by @PixiedustDLP, the parade is scheduled to return on January 7, 2027, with two performances daily.

That’s a notable change from its typical one-performance schedule and will give guests more opportunities to see the parade before it eventually disappears.

The expansion follows a two-month hiatus that began on November 7, 2026. Disney has confirmed that the parade will remain absent through January 6, coinciding with this year’s Disney Enchanted Christmas celebrations.

During this period, Disneyland Park’s regular procession is replaced by Mickey’s Dazzling Christmas Parade, which debuted in 2021.

The festive production runs twice daily and features five floats carrying characters such as Mickey Mouse, Disney Princesses, and Santa Claus. Its evening performances feature elaborate lighting effects, transforming the parade into a nighttime Christmas spectacle.

Mickey’s Dazzling Christmas Parade also won the IAAPA Brass Ring Award for Most Creative Christmas/Holiday Show in 2022.

The 2026 Christmas celebrations include additional entertainment across Disneyland Paris. Guests can enjoy seasonal musical performances, Christmas character encounters, and festive decorations throughout Disneyland Park.

For the first time, Disney Enchanted Christmas also extends to World of Frozen at Disney Adventure World, where Arendelle features Nordic-inspired decorations and performances by the Arendelle carolers.

These festivities conclude on January 6, clearing the way for Disney Stars on Parade to return the following day.
