Fall is in full gear at Walt Disney World Resort. As Main Street, U.S.A. is decked out for the spooky season, we’re seeing fans flock to Magic Kingdom Park for the return of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. But as the party returned on Friday, August 12, 2022, Disney fans noticed something was missing.

All Splash Mountain characters were quietly removed from the popular Boo-To-You Halloween Parade held during Micky’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. The parade is one of the BEST parades Walt Disney World Resort offers with unique character touches that can’t be seen in the daily Magic Kingdom Festival of Fantasy Parade.

But just as the “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” song reference of Splash Mountain was removed from the Festival of Fantasy Parade, the nostalgic Splash Mountain characters are now gone from Boo-To-You Halloween Parade.

The iconic water ride is still in operation at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, but Disney has already confirmed the attraction will be getting an overhaul in late 2024 when it will be renamed “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure” with a retheme of Disney’s animated classic, The Princess and the Frog (2009).

Splash Mountain’s current theme features Disney’s Song of the South (1946). In June 2020, Disney announced they would be retheming the nostalgic Splash Mountain attraction to provide a more inclusive experience with efforts to remove any racist connotation Song of the South may have.

Just like their removal from the Boo-To-You Parade, Br’er Rabbit, Br’er Fox, and Br’er Bear will soon be no more.

Currently, Disney’s plans for retheming to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure include:

We pick up this story after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.

Tiana is a modern, courageous, and empowered woman, who pursues her dreams and never loses sight of what’s really important. It’s a great story with a strong lead character, set against the backdrop of New Orleans and the Louisiana bayou. In 1966, Walt himself opened New Orleans Square when it became the first new “land” added to Disneyland park, so it feels natural to link the story and the incredible music of “The Princess and the Frog” to our parks.
