Marvel Studios’ Black Panther tells the story of how Prince T’challa, played by actor Chadwick Boseman, rises to power in the wake of competing tribal leaders, and the prince’s own American antagonist cousin, for the throne of Wakanda. The movie was a massive success, spawning a new fanbase for the cinematic version of the comic book character from all walks of life.

In particular, the film increased the representation of the Black community in Hollywood and was received both in Africa and places like the US in an overwhelmingly positive way.

Sadly, Boseman would later pass away from cancer while filming his last role for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2020. As a result, the film’s highly anticipated sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), will center on those same powerful tribes and new antagonists vying for power in the wake of the character T’challa’s untimely death, with a new focus on already popular characters like King T’challa’s elegant Queen Mother and sister, tech genius Princess Shuri.

Now, Disney California Adventure invites fans to join Wakanda on this new journey during the Festival of Holidays celebration! It is similar to EPCOT’s International Festival of Holidays in Walt Disney World. The Disneyland Resort’s official website describes the Festival of Holidays:

Embrace a seasonal celebration of diverse cultural festivities with music, food and fun for all—November 11, 2022 to January 8, 2023.

Just in time for the movie’s release on November 11, Guests to Disney California Adventure Park at the Disneyland Resort can not only sample the sights, sounds, and tastes of the many real-world cultural holidays present but embark on a culinary and entertainment trip to the imaginative Wakanda as well!

This will be the first time the Festival includes offerings from a fictional country, whose tasting booth and other activities will be central to the Avengers Campus portion of the Park, with a few other surprises elsewhere (like the Downtown Disney District).

In addition to delicious eats inspired by the flavors of the film and of Africa, like Peri-Peri chicken and rice, spiced shawarma, and Butterly Pea Tea Lemonade, Guests can immerse themselves in Wakandan culture through new merchandise and entertainment experiences at Downtown Disney and in the Parks.

The Black Panther Celebration Garden allows Guests to familiarize themselves with Wakanda’s backstory through history and lore, while the warrior character M’Baku will invite Guests to witness a performance on customs of the Jabari clan in “the Way of the Jabari” performance. What’s more, Guests can view props from the films in Hollywood Land, purchase a special sipper themed to Shuri’s gauntlet or exclusive merchandise, and enjoy a custom mural photo-op at Downtown Disney.
