Ride malfunctions are a common occurrence at Disney Parks, but some defects are more disturbing than others. This was the case on a popular ride at Disneyland Resort a few days ago.
The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure is a relaxing experience located in Disney California Adventure Park. Often an attraction weary Park goers flock to on hot days, the ride provides a respite from the busyness outside.
The “whimsical musical adventure” takes you through nostalgic scenes from Disney’s beloved animated film, The Little Mermaid (1989). The ride has been known to break down quite often, especially in the room depicting the “Under the Sea” scene.
Oftentimes, Ariel’s animatronic is the culprit, with the character either making strange movements, struggling with her hair, or donning bizarre facial expressions. On this occasion, something even more creepy occurred!
A video posted on Twitter by @nateyagi shows the whole ride almost completely broken down, with nearly all of its animatronics freezing. Strangely, the spinning starfish were the only aspect of the attraction that continued to work.

Those who have experienced the ride know that the room is quite dark, and the upbeat visuals contribute to lightening the area up. As seen in the video, it’s a bit of a creepy sight to see the animatronics frozen in one position.
It brings to mind images like the abandoned toy car scene from Polar Express (2004) or Sid’s mutant toys sitting in his dark room in the original Toy Story (1995). Ok, that may be a bit dramatic, but I think you catch my drift!
Yesterday, we shared another malfunction at Disneyland Park in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Similar to the starfish, the Kylo Ren animatronic couldn’t stop spinning, traveling in circles with his cape blowing in the wind.
It was quite an amusing sight, and the TikToker who posted the video set the recording to a comical soundtrack, making for a scene sure to give you a good laugh! Although it’s inconvenient for Disney Park Guests when a ride breaks down, it can be both entertaining and creepy to watch in situations like the ones described above!
