Change is on the way! Walt Disney World Resort previously announced the news that its BoardWalk Inn Resort is preparing for transformation. With the changes come closures, including one of BoardWalk’s shops.

On Disney’s Boardwalk, we’ve already said goodbye to ESPN Club restaurant and Ample Hills Creamery. In its place, Disney has announced The Cake Bake Shop, a restaurant offering both savory and dessert menus and afternoon tea service. The restaurant is scheduled to open in 2023.

We’ve also seen adjustments to the iconic Disney BoardWalk Bakery, which is now BoardWalk Deli. This quick-service restaurant features deli-style sandwiches and meals and various desserts.

Let’s move inside BoardWalk Inn Resort, where the Disney World Hotel lobby and beyond are being transformed. Disney has announced, “Disney’s BoardWalk Inn & BoardWalk Villas is being refurbished, with new offerings, plus updates coming to our Guest rooms, lobby and more. Please note that while most hotel amenities will remain available, you may be able to see and hear construction during daytime hours. Additionally, please allow for additional travel time.”

We’re now learning, as part of the refurbishment, it is being reported that Dundy’s Sundries, the general store located inside the BoardWalk Resort lobby, will be permanently closing on October 3, 2022. The location will be closed to make way for a new coffee shop within the lobby.

The only details we know thus far about the Disney Resort coffee shop is that Disney announced the renovation and mentioned the coffee shop, stating, “from a charming new lobby design and nearby coffee bar to delectable dining options, refreshed Guest rooms and other special touches.” We can’t help but wonder if it will be similar to Disney’s Riviera Resort lobby coffee shop, Le Petit Café.

While we say goodbye to the small general store, Dundy’s Sundries, sundry items, and merchandise are still available at the Screen Door General Store on the Boardwalk.

As always, we will be sure to keep Disney Tips readers updated as we learn more about the BoardWalk Inn Resort’s transformation.
