Disney today revealed (March 11) that Disney’s Boardwalk Resort at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida will soon be getting some much-needed updates and a new restaurant!

Modeled after Atlantic City at the turn of the century, this entertainment complex has a laid-back vibe while also offering an array of activites, food, and experiences.

First opened in 1996 and situated on Crescent Lake across from the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts, the Boardwalk is tucked between EPCOT and Hollywood studios and offers a nice respite from the busyness of the theme parks.

An evening on the Boardwalk can be the perfect end to a day at a theme park, or a great relaxing break in the middle of a vacation – especially for adults.

The Boardwalk already offers Disney Guests amazing food options like Big River Grille & Brewing Works, Flying Fish Cafe, Trattoria al Forno, and BoardWalk Ice Cream, as well as two pools, the Atlantic Dance Hall, Abracadabar (a bar with a magician theme), and the famous dueling piano bar, Jellyrolls.

Now, we’re getting new Disney restaurant, renovated hotel rooms, and CAKE!

That’s right, Disney is bringing a brand new table-service restaurant and bakery to Disney’s Boardwalk Inn, alongside a new artisanal coffee shop and sandwich destination.

The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers, which calls itself a “storybook restaurant”, is expected to open in 2023, and will offer dreamy savory and dessert menus, as well as an afternoon tea service.

The location will be the third for the restaurant, which opened its original site in Indiana in 2014. The second Cake Bake Shop opened in 2019.

The Boardwalk Inn is also getting a refresh, with both the lobby and rooms finally getting updated. One of Walt Disney World’s Deluxe Resort Hotels, the BoardWalk Inn offers decor inspired by the seaside districts of the Northeastern United States in the 20th century. The Inn is a short walk or FriendShip boat ride from the other Resorts around Crescent Lake, as well as EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The BoardWalk Bakery will become a new sandwich shop alongside the waterfront, offering great lunchtime options for Guests.

Disney Parks Blog explained more about the new dining locations and updates to the Boardwalk Resort:

We’re gearing up to make a seaside splash at Disney’s BoardWalk! Over the next few years, we’ll be bringing new enhancements and offerings to life along this beloved, turn-of-the-century promenade – from a charming new lobby design and nearby coffee bar to delectable dining options, refreshed guest rooms and other special touches.

Through the doors of Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, light and airy touches will reinvigorate the lobby, lounge and guest rooms, carrying the seaside breeze right inside. Just off the lobby, a new coffee bar with artisanal beverages and quick bites will be available to-go or in newly refreshed seating spaces inside or outdoors.

After the recent opening of Space 220 restaurant at EPCOT, and Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser hotel, this will be an exciting Disney dining addition to the Lake Buena Vista Resort.

Remember, a dining reservation must be made in advance on the My Disney Experience app.

We can’t wait to try the afternoon tea and see these amazing cakes in person! We look forward to sharing new details and the latest news about these enhancements at the Disney Resort Hotel as they become available.
