It is no secret that CEO of the Walt Disney Company Bob Chapek often receives mixed opinions from fans at best, and the crowd attending this morning’s first panel of the 2022 D23 Expo certainly made their feelings known.
The annual Disney Legends Ceremony kicked off the ultimate Disney fan weekend at the Anaheim Convention Center, but the top company executive was not met with a clear round of applause from fans in the audience as a quiet wave of “boos” took over the auditorium.
One audience member, Thomas Lipscomb caught the “boos” on camera and shared a video to Twitter:

The boos can be difficult to hear in video, especially if you are watching the live stream presented by D23 where it appears that the audio was turned down as Chapek approached the stage. During the weeks leading up to D23, fans were not shy with their critiques of the CEO on social media as some planned to boo while others poked fun at recent language he used during a quarterly earnings call (namely Disney’s “synergy machine.”)
Later during the Disney Legends Ceremony as award-recipient and Imagineer Rob’t Coltrin thanked both former Disney CEO Bob Iger and current CEO Bob Chapek, we also have to point out that Iger was met with much larger applause from the audience.

Bob Chapek also shared a series of opening remarks to kick off the biggest Disney fan event of the year, sharing that the 2022 D23 Expo would be “the biggest, most over the top D23 ever.” Along with his quick opening lines, he mentioned upcoming panels that fans can expect to see over the weekend, both in person and via live stream, including the highly anticipated Parks Panel, and with a special shoutout to Disney Cruise Line.
The weekend’s event also promises a number of first-looks at Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm productions, new theme park attractions across Disneyland and the Walt Disney World Resort along with all of the company’s international theme parks, and more.
