Disney Parks Could Explore Holiday Classics Vault for New Attractions

Almost every Halloween, Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion transforms into a Nightmare Before Christmas ride. It’s wildly popular, regularly drawing long lines and is a seasonal must-do. But here’s a real question: why stop there?

Disney has a vault of holiday classics it barely uses. Think about Home Alone (1990), The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992), or even The Santa Clause (1994). All are part of Disney’s extensive library, especially since the 20th Century Fox acquisition in 2019, and yet none of them have a permanent home at any Disney resort. Or even a temporary one for that matter.

Yes, The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) has earned its place, but even that franchise doesn’t have its own year-round attraction, just a seasonal makeover.

The Muppet Christmas Carol, perhaps the most beloved version of the timeless Charles Dickens tale, has no ride, no show, not even a seasonal pop-up store. And Home Alone—arguably the most quoted Christmas movie ever (in competition with Die Hard)—is merely confined to nostalgia.

With Disney World reshaping entire lands and Disneyland Paris adding new Frozen and Lion King areas, the company is clearly open to tapping into beloved stories. Yet somehow, these well-known holiday properties stay on the bench.

The Opportunities for Disney Parks Are There

It doesn’t have to be a full land. A limited-time holiday walkthrough. A stunt show. A seasonal Muppet overlay with scenes from their Christmas Carol. Any of these attractions would breathe life into characters and films that resurface every December like clockwork.

So why not? Disney has proven it knows how to do nostalgia right, so maybe it’s time they look to their holiday vault, blow off the dust (and the snow), and see what timeless properties could bring a little more holiday magic to the parks—all year round.
