How Disney Resorts Accommodate Pets During Hurricanes

Walt Disney World Resort hotels are among the safest places to ride out hurricanes as storms move through Florida, with many Guests who are unable to travel home and residents who have evacuated staying onsite.

To help accommodate Guests who might be unexpectedly staying at Disney Resorts due to hurricanes, Disney temporarily lifts its ban on pets in non-pet-friendly Resorts, allowing Guests to keep their furry friends safe, too.

Aside from making the move to allow pets at Disney Resorts, there is not too much that goes into accommodating furry family members as their humans typically come prepared with anything they might need during their stay.

While leashed dogs are able to leave Guest rooms, there are times during hurricanes where everyone at the Resorts must shelter in place for their safety. In these moments, you may be wondering how dogs are able to get out and go to the bathroom.

When dogs are unable to go outside due to the hurricane, Disney Resorts add relief areas to locations that are still accessible while sheltering in place. These locations are similar to the service dog relief areas you may be familiar with around Disney Parks.

Disney typically keeps its revised pet policies in place until the theme parks and other amenities begin to reopen and Guests are able to safely travel home. So, if you ever find yourself riding out a hurricane at Walt Disney World with the whole family, you can rest assured that every member of the family will be well taken care of.

We are continuing to monitor the impact of Hurricane Ian on the Walt Disney World Resort, and will be back here on Disney Tips with additional updates as we have them.
