Calling all Disney Villains fans! We previously shared the exciting news that Disney has revealed they are refurbishing the Top of the World Lounge with a “Villains Lair” touch. We now have more details about this highly-anticipated lounge including a backstory.
The Top of the World Lounge is one of the Disney Vacation Club Member perks that resides on the rooftop of Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. It’s been closed since the COVID pandemic but is now reopening as of July 11, 2022, for DVC Members and their Guests.
Villains Lair Backstory
Behind every Disney enhancement, there is always an intriguing storyline and the new Villains Lair is no different. Disney’s backstory for the Top of the World refurbishment is as follows:
“Discover the untold story of this covert hideout for some of Disney’s most dastardly villains. Even the ruthless relax.
Whether pursuing puppies or stealing souls, messing with a mermaid or belittling a beast, evil-doing is exhausting. And since a dishonest day’s work is frowned upon by mainstream masses, the deliciously devious decompress away from judging eyes––hiding deep underground… or on top of the world. Swapping stories of sabotage and toasting with tales of terror, the unsavory unwind in places inaccessible to the innocent.
So, when our own Top of the World Lounge temporarily closed its doors atop Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, it didn’t take long for the idle enclave to become a devils’ playground. We’re not sure how they got here (we can only guess by monorail), but we do know they were here. For when we returned to reopen this picturesque place to mingling Members, we found stuff left behind by these hustlers in a hurry.
Curious couture from their wicked wardrobes. Artwork befitting their ghastly galleries. And rebellious recipes for their cunning concoctions. That’s when we did what so many great Cast Members have done before us.
We gave the place a longer name. Welcome home to the Top of the World Lounge – A Villains Lair. Like the best Disney stories, it’s a place of magic… with a touch of tragic.“
New Drinks and Bites
While the full menu of cocktails and food has yet to be released, Disney has noted the “spell-tacular views” can be taken in while sipping on “sinister concoctions”, “wicked wines”, “bubbling brews”, and “fiendish fare”. The one menu item name Disney has revealed is a new Seven-Lair Cake.
How to Experience the Villains Lair
Access to Top of the World Lounge requires an eligible Walt Disney World Resort hotel reservation, valid photo ID, and digital Disney Vacation Club Membership Card.
The Villains Lair is open from 6:00 p.m. to midnight daily (subject to block-out dates). Take note the space is fairly small, subject to capacity restrictions, and is on a first-come-first-serve basis. Current block-out dates include July 3, July 4, December 30, and December 31.
Guests can begin checking in at 5:45 pm at the Top of the World Lounge – A Villains Lair desk on the ground floor lobby. At least one member in your party must accompany the group and present their current MagicBand, digital Membership card, and government-issued photo ID in order to gain admission to the lounge and observation deck.
If driving to Disney’s Bay Lake Tower, complimentary parking will be available for eligible Members beginning at 5:00 p.m., pending parking lot availability. The eligible DVC Members must present a digital Member Card and photo ID at security to confirm accessibility.
Bringing Guests
Have a Disney Villain Guest you want to bring along to experience this evil lair? Eligible Members and their Guests staying on that Member’s reservation are eligible for entrance into the Villans Lair. One party per day is allowed which can include eligible Members and Guests staying on that Member’s reservation.
Fireworks Pre-Opening Party
As previously shared, Disney will be holding a pre-opening fireworks party called “Bound to be Bad” for eligible Disney Vacation Club members staying at one of Walt Disney World’s Resort Hotels between July 8 – 10. Further details and an invite to join in on the night fun will be sent to current DVC Members with booked Resort reservations.
Top of the World Lounge has always been known as being one of the BEST places to view the Magic Kingdom Park fireworks. We have no doubt Disney Enchantment will look stunning from this new Villain Lair!
