Just engaged? Congratulations! Whether you are starting to plan your Disney wedding or are just dreaming, one of the first questions you probably have comes down to what such an event will cost. The answer may not be as scary as you’d think…
Like most weddings, a wedding at Walt Disney World or Disneyland can be more or less expensive depending on which venues you choose, how many Guests you invite, and the time of year and day of the week that you choose. Many of the standard wedding industry rules apply here with more Guests, weekends, and peak seasons being more expensive.
The majority of Disney wedding packages run on minimum expenditures. This means there is a minimum total fee required to host the event at a given location usually based on the number of Guests that a space can accommodate. For instance, if your event includes a reception at one of Disney’s resort ballrooms that holds 100 people, you will either hit that expenditure by having 100 people you are paying to feed at the event, or you will make up the difference by adding extras to your event of say, 50 people.
For many Walt Disney World weddings, the extras are what ends up making their special day more expensive. These can be things like having Disney characters at your event (which runs about $2500 per half hour for Mickey and Minnie), having additional floral decor, enhanced music, transportation, etc… or a more limited venue that would require more staff and potentially closing an area to Guests (think after-hours weddings in the Magic Kingdom.)
These minimum costs at Walt Disney World range from $7,500 to $50,000 depending on the location and all of the variables mentioned above. There are locations around Walt Disney World Resort hotels with venue fees starting at around $3,500 which while not including extras (beyond the basics that come with the packages) or receptions, are not much more expensive than a non-Disney venue might be.
On the more affordable side of Disney weddings, a small wedding at one of the more reasonably priced resort locations, with modest food and beverage extras and basics in terms of transportation and flowers could cost $10,000 or less. On the other hand, a Magic Kingdom reception or afterparty could push your wedding cost over $60,000.
It may also be helpful to note that while Disney does not offer financing for weddings, you would be making three payments rather than paying for the event in full. A deposit is required to book your event, with additional payments made when the Guest list is finalized and then 30 days before your wedding.
With so many ways to customize Disney weddings, it is worth contacting Disney’s wedding planning team to see what might work for you as there are multiple options that could be changed to make the event fit your budget. To start planning your Disney wedding, visit DisneyWeddings.com.
