One of Disney’s Rarest Villains Just Debuted at This Park’s Halloween Party

Halloween is just days, or in fact, hours away! But while everyone prepares their own Halloween decorations, costumes, and pumpkins, the Disney Parks have been celebrating for some time. Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World began its spooky celebrations in August, with decorations appearing early in the month and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party beginning on August 12. Meanwhile, Disneyland California began its celebrations on September 2, with the return of Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party, in addition to the Main Street Pumpkin Festival and Haunted Mansion Holiday.

Halloween celebrations have also been taking place in Disneyland Paris. Beginning and ending a little later than the celebrations in the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland, California, the Disney Halloween Festival runs from October 1 through to November 6 this year. For the most part, most of the Halloween celebrations in Disneyland Park are available for all Guests to enjoy, with Mickey’s Halloween Celebration cavalcade, fangtastically devilish treats, and spooky souvenirs. Favorite Disney characters also don their own Halloween costumes during the season, giving Guests a treat during meet-and-greets. Guests can also hang out with Maleficent in her thorn-laden lair behind Sleeping Beauty Castle; she most certainly attracts a long line with her magnificent presence. At nightfall, Sleeping Beauty Castle is bewitched by the Disney villains with projections, music, and water fountains, creating a fun pre-show to the 30th anniversary fireworks show.

Disney Halloween Parties

You may be wondering about a Halloween Party then. Disneyland Paris does hold their very own Halloween Party, that is limited to two evenings per year. This year, the Disney Halloween Parties are taking place on October 29 and of course, October 31. The event runs through to 2 a.m. on both evenings, beginning at 9 p.m. on October 29, and 8:30 p.m. on October 31, and is available to Guests who have purchased a Halloween Party ticket.

The Disney Halloween Parties take place throughout Disneyland Park, and offer shows, entertainment, characters and attractions for Guests’ enjoyment. Additionally, some merchandise locations and restaurants are open throughout the evening. Guests are able to don a Halloween costume if they wish to do so – it’s all part of the fun of Halloween after all!

Yzma’s Evil Plans

Yes that’s right! Yzma from The Emporer’s New Groove (2000) is making an appearance at the Disney Halloween Party this year. You could say that she’s an underrated Disney villain; she’s not one to make an appearance usually, and often gets overshadowed by the other, more popular Disney villains. As such, we love that she is getting her very own show in Disneyland Paris.

Guests of the Disney Halloween Parties will get five chances per evening to see Yzma take to the stage in a live-action show at the Videopolis Theatre. The 25 minute show is set to feature cabaret numbers and hysterical surprises. Will Yzma and Kronk succeed in their mission to eliminate their enemy, Kuzco? We’d love to find out!

Not only does Yzma star in her own show at the Disneyland Paris Halloween Party, but she also features as the main character on the front of the Disney Halloween Parties Program. It’s refreshing to see this Disney villain take center stage for once, alongside Maleficent and Jafar.

More Halloween Entertainment

The Unenchanted Ball of the Disney Villains is another show that Guests can enjoy throughout each evening. The show will take place on the Castle Stage, and it seems that the Evil Queen will take the lead, alongside her magic mirror. The Disney villains attend a ball, organized by the magic mirror, to help receive the Evil Queen’s boredom. The show will feature pyrotechnics and over 300 candles!

While Mickey’s Boo-To-You Parade at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Magic Kingdom takes place twice per evening, Mickey’s Halloween Celebration parade will only make its way through Disneyland Park once during each of the Disney Halloween Parties. Advertised as a cavalcade, this is likely to be the same one that is available for all Guests to enjoy during each day of the Halloween season. We’re sure that being able to experience the cavalcade at night will add a few extra spooks! Additionally, there is likely to be fewer crowds due to the Halloween Parties being a ticketed event. This may help Guests get a better view of the cavalcade than during the general opening hours of Disneyland Park.

Eerie Areas for the Bravest Souls

Whilst the Disney Halloween Parties don’t offer Guests the chance to trick-or-treat around Disneyland Park, there are three areas that are themed especially for this spooky time of year.

The Pirates’ Scary Island is returning again this year, having been a huge hit with Guests in previous years. Guests can explore Adventure Isle in Adventureland amongst zombie pirates. We expect that the mysterious paths of Skull Rock become even more frightening during the dark hours!

Frontierland is set to become eerie, as Thunder Mesa: Ghost Town occupies the space between Phantom Manor and Ravenswoods’ Manor. Be sure to keep your wits about you as the inhabitants of Thunder Mesa return from the dead, creating the most spirited atmosphere!

And if that wasn’t enough spooks, the stroke of midnight brings friends from the other side to the Central Plaza in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle and Main Street, U.S.A.. From 11:55 p.m. through to the end of the Halloween Party, Guests have the chance to interact with Disney characters who will wander the area like lost souls. We wonder if Disney villains such as Cruella De Vil, Governor Ratcliffe and Maleficent will roam during this time?

Character Interactions

As if that wasn’t enough fun already, there are several Disney characters that will star in the evening’s events. These include:

  • Mickey Mouse in Fantasyland
  • Gaston in Fantasyland
  • Jafar in Adventureland
  • Jack Skellington in Frontierland
  • Chewbacca in Discoveryland

Additionally, Oogie Boogie will be wandering the Disney Park from 9 p.m. through to 11 p.m. We predict that he will make his way to Main Street USA upon the stroke of midnight.

And that’s not all! Disney villains are set to appear around Disneyland Park, taking possession of shady spots creating spooky surprises for Guests who dare to seek them out! It sure sounds like one fun game of hide and go seek, that we’re dying to take part in!

If you haven’t yet visited Disneyland Paris and are looking for the perfect time to visit, then maybe you need to plan a trip that will tie into next Halloween. You’d be silly to miss out on these exclusive and limited edition events that take place in October.
