The Walt Disney World Resort often likes to get some projects done in the middle of the night. It usually provides the best opportunity to be productive since Park Guests are not forming crowds or otherwise in the way. The middle of the night allows the maintenance crew to clean up each theme Park, repair rides, and repaint certain areas. But it’s also an excellent chance for Disney Imagineers to install massive set pieces and ride icons.

The Water Tower

At Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park, the water tower for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (formerly Splash Mountain) was installed overnight. The ride’s multi-story-tall icon is painted with “Employee Owned Tiana’s Foods Est. 1927” and is topped with a tiara matching the one the Disney princess sports at the end of the movie. The tiara also has a special dual star element at one of its points – symbolizing Evangeline and Ray.

It seems likely that the water tower will become a unique symbol of the Park, similar to what the tree stump was for the Splash Mountain attraction or the mountain peak is for Big Thunder Mountain.

Other Details We Know

The attraction is set to open in 2024, although an official date has yet to be announced. The ride will use the same flume track layout as Splash Mountain previously did and take riders through a new adventure after The Princess and the Frog (2009) film ended. It reportedly follows Princess Tiana as she and her friends work to prepare a special Mardi Gras celebration. The former mountain will be transformed into a salt mine, and the new ride will feature 17 new audio-animatronics, including Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, the jazz loving alligator Louis, and Mama Odie.

About Steven Wilk

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
