The Haunted Mansion thrills and delights Guests through a tour of a spook-filled mansion home to 999 spirits.
The terrifying attraction opened in 1969 at the Disneyland Resort and features design input from notable Imagineers like Claude Coates, X Atencio, Rolly Crump, Marc Davis, Leota Toombes, and John Hench. The official Disney Parks website describes the experience:
Take your seat in a gloomy Doom Buggy for a spooky tour through this house of happy haunts… Dearly depart into a foreboding estate, drag your body to the dead center of the Portrait Chamber and watch as the walls begin to stretch before your eyes. Climb into your waiting Doom Buggy and embark on a shivering journey into an unearthly realm.

When TikTok user @thelifeofjo_duh shared this video depicting her party’s “walk of shame” off the Haunted Mansion attraction, curious viewers were quick to question just why her family had shut down the entire ride:
@lifeofjojo_ We did the walk of shame. The operator came & said “come with us.” 😂🤦🏻♀️ #DisneyLand #california @Disneyland California
As the user, named JoJo, explains in the caption of her post, a ride operator arrived shortly after the attraction’s ride sequence paused to escort her from the ride vehicle, known as a “Doom Buggy.” The ride system utilizes the Omnimover mechanism attributed to Imagineer Bob Gurr.
In a follow-up post, JoJo provides the full story of what exactly happened. While commenters on the original post speculated the family attempted to spread a loved one’s ashes or even “hanky panky,” JoJo clarifies “that was a complete lie.”

JoJo, her mother, and her aunt wanted to all share a single-ride vehicle as they embarked on their haunting excursion because they were “scared” to go on the “haunted ride” by themselves. As she explains, with the three women “squished” into the seat, the safety bar of the vehicle would not lower completely, causing the ride to stop.
However, the stall was temporary, and after the family disembarked, the other riders were able to continue with their tour. JoJo notes in the comments of her post that Haunted Mansion Cast Members allowed these Guests to ride again if they so desired, so no one’s experience was ruined. JoJo, her mom, and her aunt were also able to get back on safely by returning to the front of the line, and likely splitting up into two ride vehicles to complete their tour.
Though it may have been a harrowing ordeal for some involved, luckily no one was hurt and the Mansion remains to scare another batch of Foolish Mortals. Guests who wish to board the attraction are advised to check the Disneyland mobile app beforehand for wait times and updates. As a reminder, Disneyland has transformed the California version of the ride into the Haunted Mansion Holiday for a limited time.
