It has been an unpredictable couple of years for Disney Parks and Resorts with each of the company’s vacation destinations subject to varying regulations based on their specific locations throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite most regulations being lifted at many Disney Parks, some reminders of the changes brought on in 2020 remain (perhaps even for the foreseeable future, like theme park reservation requirements), while others have long been dropped.

Health and safety guidelines over the past three years have varied by each Park and Resort, however, the one consistent rule that nearly every Disney destination has shared is a mask requirement. At the Walt Disney World Resort, mask mandates were loosened gradually, dropping down to being required indoors only, then on transportation only, and eventually, the guideline was dropped altogether.
Overseas, things have been different with Hong Kong Disneyland dropping its mask requirement for the first time in three years today, March 1, 2023. The Wall Street Journal reports that the city of Hong Kong, which has held one of the longest-running pandemic-era restrictions of any city in the world, has officially dropped its mask mandate, leaving Hong Kong Disneyland open to doing the same.

Even though the city has lifted its mandate, and Disneyland has followed suit, anyone planning to travel to Hong Kong Disneyland in the near future should note that the Resort is still taking several other safety precautions.
According to Hong Kong Disneyland’s official website, many pandemic-era changes like increased sanitizing of Guest areas, preference toward mobile ordering and contactless payments, and socially distanced selfies while seeing Disney characters have remained in place.

Even as COVID-19 restrictions seem to be lifted at Disney Parks (or anywhere, for that matter) we always recommend checking the specifics with whatever destinations you are planning on visiting as they may still vary. Guests traveling aboard Disney Cruise Line may want to take extra care to note of any restrictions that may differ based on certain ports and excursions.
As always, we at Disney Tips will continue to provide updates on Disney Parks around the world to help you make the most of your next vacation.
