An unexpected technical failure at Disneyland Resort left guests stranded mid-ride on one of the park’s most iconic attractions. The Incredicoaster, which has been thrilling guests for 24 years, came to an abrupt stop, triggering an emergency evacuation high above the Southern California Disney park.

Ride Malfunction Brings Incredicoaster to a Halt

Originally opening as California Screamin’ in 2001, the Incredicoaster is the longest and fastest roller coaster at Disneyland Resort. It was rethemed in 2018 to fit Paradise Pier’s transformation into Pixar Pier, taking on a fresh identity while keeping its high-speed thrills. However, this week, the ride’s safety systems were put to the test when it experienced a sudden system failure mid-operation.

Reddit user u/jeph62 captured the moment guests were left stranded on the track. “We were evacuated off the top of the fire tunnel yesterday during the rain storms,” they shared. “The view from there was one you don’t get to see very often and now we have an awesome story to add to our Disney trip!”

What Went Wrong?

Disneyland Resort’s safety systems are designed to detect mechanical irregularities and automatically shut down rides before any danger arises. According to a Disney cast member, the Incredicoaster stalled due to a launch failure that caused a train to roll backward down the hill, forcing the system to activate emergency stopping procedures.

“A cast member told us they had a train that didn’t launch properly and rolled backwards down the initial hill causing all trains to stop in certain safe zones,” the Reddit user explained.

Disney’s maintenance team acted quickly, scaling the coaster in full harnesses to assess the situation.

“The maintenance crew came up in full harnesses and attached to the side of the ride,” the Disney Park guest recalled. “We were so confused when they unlocked our harnesses and said ‘go stand over there on the scaffold walkway in the wind and rain.’ My girls are both under 10 and were terrified!”

Fortunately, the evacuation was completed in under 30 minutes, and all guests safely returned to the ground. While the abrupt stop may have been jarring, it was a reminder of Disneyland Resort’s commitment to ride safety and guest protection. The Incredicoaster has since reopened and resumed normal operations.
