In a move that could shape the future of Disney’s California Adventure Park, a new petition has emerged, aiming to halt the construction of an Avatar-themed land. This latest effort marks the continuation of a string of petitions in response to potential changes at the park, though past attempts have been unsuccessful in convincing Disney to reverse its course. The current petition, still in its early stages, underscores the growing concern that the beloved Monsters, Inc. ride could be sacrificed to make way for the new Avatar area.

The petition, which has begun circulating across Disney fan communities, declares:

“Prevent Construction of Avatar Land in Disney’s California Adventure. Disney Parks have always been a place of magic and nostalgia. The unique combination of rides, characters, and beloved stories has made Disneyland a cherished destination for millions of people worldwide.”

The Avatar Debate: Is it Right for California Adventure?

A major concern from petitioners is that the Avatar Land being proposed for California Adventure may not resonate with the park’s fans. The Avatar-themed area, which already exists at Disney World in Florida, has struggled to generate the expected level of popularity, prompting many to question whether it would have a similar lukewarm reception in California. While Disney World’s Avatar Land has not lived up to its potential, Disneyland fans are hoping that their voices will be heard before significant changes take place.

The biggest point of contention revolves around the possible removal of the Monsters, Inc. ride, an attraction that has been a cornerstone of California Adventure since its opening. The ride takes visitors on an enchanting adventure through the world of the beloved Pixar film, and it holds a special place in the hearts of many Disney enthusiasts. For petitioners, the idea of replacing this cherished experience with a new, untested attraction like Avatar Land is a tough pill to swallow.

“The ride remains a fan favorite, and many visitors believe that Disneyland should focus on preserving its beloved classics instead of replacing them with something uncertain,” the petition continues. According to feedback gathered from Disney regulars, many would rather see existing rides updated or refreshed than lose them in favor of a new land that may not capture the same magic.

Resource Allocation: Financial and Spatial Concerns

The petition also raises practical concerns about the resources required to develop a new Avatar Land, both in terms of cost and space. With limited land available at California Adventure, fans believe that the funds and effort directed towards Avatar Land could be better spent enhancing existing attractions or introducing new themes that fit better with Disney’s core values.

“Other parts of Disneyland could benefit greatly from these investments,” the petition reads, “ensuring both long-time fans and new visitors continue to experience Disney magic.”

Despite the ongoing resistance, previous petitions opposing major changes in the park have not managed to convince Disney to change its plans. Yet, with this latest petition, there is a renewed sense of determination among Disney fans, who hope their collective outcry will prompt the company to rethink the proposed construction.

A Call for Disney to Reconsider

The petition concludes with a heartfelt plea for Disney to reassess the direction of the park’s future developments: “We advocate for a reconsideration of these plans to ensure that future developments in Disneyland reflect the desires and expectations of its loyal patrons.” The message is clear: fans want to protect the magic they hold dear.

While it remains uncertain whether this latest petition will be the tipping point, it’s evident that Disney enthusiasts are passionate about preserving the nostalgic charm of their beloved park. For now, they continue to rally together in the hopes that their voices will lead to a re-evaluation of the proposed changes, keeping the Monsters, Inc. ride—and the spirit of Disneyland—intact.

  1. I absolutely detest Abatar and always will. It’s certainly NOT Disney, never will be and I do not understand why it’s there. It’s like they wanted to do it but couldn’t make their minds up where it belonged. That’s it doesn’t belong in Disney. Though the cinematography may be marvelous to some, it’s storyline is rubbish and let’s Disney down immensely just by association! We’ve stopped going to that area altogether because it’s like we’ve stepped out of the park and gone into an adjacent place that’s tacky and confusing! It should be taken out of Animal Kingdom altogether and some proper Disney material put in there. Lady and The Tramp is celebrating a big birthday this year but it has never had an attraction dedicated to it and it damned well should have! Get Avatar out of Disney all together and ditch it completely. It’s a complete waste of space, time and money and that makes me doubt Disneys legacy and commitment to the man, and Mouse, who started it all! 🤨

  2. How ridiculous. Monsters was never a fan favorite ride. Wait times were always low until they added LL. It was just a throw away to fix a different bad ride. This part of DCA has always been empty and under utilized. Avatar might change that in a good way.

  3. I really dislike Avatar and its. Not Disney nor something for the kids. Pick another kids movie. Why not do a coco world . That would be amazing.

  4. Avatar is a visually impressive movie, but it certainly does not have the Disney magic feel. I don’t understand why they would not capitalize on one of the movies that is popular with the kids. Coco, Moana, Encanto…. would all be great choices. Avatar truly seems to be incongruous with the Disney theme.
