Has something ever gone “wrong” on your Walt Disney World vacation? A few visitors to Disney’s Hollywood Studios received quite a surprise when disaster struck their visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth in the form of a falling lamp post.

Many Guests who visit the Walt Disney World Resort each year are drawn to the Parks for their immersive experiences and themes. One of their biggest draws is their ability to transport Guests to far-off and imaginative places, offering an escape from the everyday and a chance to be part of the magic!
When something in a Disney Park doesn’t go quite right, it can take Guests out of the moment. As such, it doesn’t happen very often, but when it does, it’s a noticeable differentiation from the expected Disney standard of perfection.

Luckily when these mishaps do occur, Disney knows how to offer Guest support to ensure the proper turnaround to their day. For some of the Guests walking the streets of Hollywood Studios, this was certainly the case.
While many love the for its and Star Wars attractions, is an homage to classic cinema. Retro-style lamp posts line both the Sunset and Hollywood Boulevard portions of the Park, adding to the ambiance in a call back to the classic versions of two real Los Angeles streets. A video posted to TikTok by user @themeparkgroupie captures the aftermath of one of them collapsing suddenly to the ground:

Photos credited to Brynn Walter-Schreader show the snapped metal post and pieces of the shattered bulbs littering the walkway, while Cast Members direct traffic safely away from the debrise.
Though some speculated a “hit-and-run” encounter with a Guest was to blame, Disney has yet to release what caused the metal supports to weaken. Less than 24 hours later, the damage had been repaired.
While it may not have been as exciting as the finale of the new Fantasmic, no one was harmed by the fallen light fixture. Luckily, that makes the ordeal more of a memorable tale for visitors nearby rather than a dangerous end to their magical day. We can save the zany mishaps and falling structures for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway… or maybe Disneyland’s Toontown in California.
Guests who’d still like to brave a walk down Sunset Blvd. can book Park reservations and ticketed admission for Disney’s Hollywood Studios via the Walt Disney World website.
