Guest Discovers a Maggot In Her Food at a Popular Disney World Restaurant

The Walt Disney World Resort is home to several of our favorite restaurants (both at the theme parks and Resorts, and just in general!). And while any dining location can have an off day, there are some incidents that could leave a bad taste in our mouths, no pun intended.

During a recent trip to a Disney Park, one Guest spotted something unusual, and to some, rather unsettling, while dining at a quick-service restaurant.

Disney Dining spoke with Disney World Guest Nicky McCrystal Farenga, who found an insect in her food while dining at one of the newest restaurants at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Farenga shared a photo of the side of broccoli that came with her meal at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo on Facebook, with a warning to herself and other Disney fans: “Note to self: always check your veggies carefully before you eat them, even at Disney. Seriously, I don’t usually check and have probably eaten hundreds of bugs throughout my life.”

The photos that accompanied her post, clearly shows a maggot on a piece of the broccoli:

Farenga did note that she was understanding of the issue since finding insects in fresh vegetables is not an unusual occurrence, but she was still surprised actually to find something while dining out at a restaurant. As you might imagine, the replies to her post are a mixed bag with some Guests agreeing that bugs in vegetables is not the worst thing that could be found in food, and many others showing utter disgust for the incident.

Thankfully, this incident is not common at Walt Disney World but there have been some other recent issues with restaurants and specific dishes around the Resort. While it was what one Guest ordered, a recent diner at Morimoto Asia in Disney Springs was surprised to receive a certificate with a little too much information about their steak. And, unsurprisingly, other Guests have been quite vocal about rising food and drink prices around the Resort.

Maggot issues aside, Docking Bay 7 is one of the most popular restaurants at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, offering immersive Star Wars-inspired dining on a quick-service theme park budget. You might still want to add it to your list for your next trip to the Park (just maybe pass on the broccoli, or at least give it a once over!)

Disney’s official description of Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo reads:

Prepare Your Tastebuds for Takeoff
At this restaurant housed in a working hangar bay, choose from a variety of dishes prepared with ingredients from across the galaxy—all of it delicious, but none of it familiar. Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs has docked a food freighter loaded with fresh supplies and he’s ready to satisfy the appetites of visitors and locals alike with an array of exotic offerings. His planet-hopping travels allow him to prepare fare with unusual flavors that delight customers.

Once you’ve got your grub, sit inside the spacious hanger, or grab a table in the rustic outdoor seating area surrounded by the crumbling walls of the old marketplace.
