While fans at Walt Disney World have been focused on new and upcoming thrill rides, like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and TRON Lightcycle / Run, we can’t forget about all of the great new family rides that are coming to Disney Parks for Guests of all ages to enjoy together.
One of the best family attractions at Walt Disney World is Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Some fans (myself included) might still be mourning the loss of The Great Movie Ride, which formerly occupied the Chinese Theater where Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is today, but there is no doubt that this attraction is a hit with Guests of all ages, and an exciting way to include Mickey Mouse himself in his very first theme park ride.
With Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway proving so popular at Walt Disney World, we have exciting news for Guests whose “home” Park is Disneyland. The iconic attraction starring Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and more, will be making its west coast debut at Disneyland Park on January 27, 2023, just in time for the kick-off to the Disney100 Celebration.
At Disneyland, the attraction will be part of a newly reimagined version of Mickey’s Toontown, with the rest of this beloved theme park land set to open later in 2023. Earlier next year, however, Guests visiting Disneyland will be treated to new decorations on Sleeping Beauty Castle for Disney100, along with new nighttime spectaculars in both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure.
At Disneyland, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will take on a story totally unique from its Disney’s Hollywood Studios counterpart. On the west coast version of the attraction, the Disney Parks Blog shared some background noting:
The action takes place at the El CapiTOON Theater, where Mickey and Minnie are premiering their newest short, “Perfect Picnic.” Before you enter the cinema, you’ll experience a special exhibit created by the Toontown Hysterical Society featuring costumes and props from the toon world.
With a totally revamped experience from the original attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it looks like we’ll have to start planning our next trip to the Disneyland Resort!
We will continue to monitor updates from Disneyland, especially with the progress and reopening of Mickey’s Toontown, and will report back with more information as we have it here on Disney Tips.
