Major expansion projects are underway at Disney Cruise Line, and the latest endeavor will take one of its upcoming ships to Southeast Asia for the first time.

Disney Cruise Line has been steadily expanding since work began on the newest ship to join the fleet, the Disney Wish. The Wish launched in summer of 2022 out of Port Canaveral, Florida, where she currently sails to the Bahamas with stops at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.

Along with the Disney Wish, the company had previously announced that two more ships are in the works, including the Disney Treasure and another ship yet to be named. And last year, Disney made the surprise announcement that the company had purchased the Global Dream, a massive unfinished vessel whose parent company had gone into bankruptcy.

The news of Disney’s purchase of the Global Dream broke last fall; however, the company has not since shared any new updates on the ship or its upcoming travels until now.

The Disney Parks Blog has shared that Disney Cruise Line and the Singapore Tourism Board have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which notes an agreement between the two entities to collaborate on Disney vacations in Southeast Asia and the homeport in Singapore for the new ship.

Specifically, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Josh D’Amaro stated:

This is a very exciting year for The Walt Disney Company — 2023 marks our 100th anniversary. As part of this, Disney Cruise Line is currently undergoing an ambitious expansion with new ships and new destinations around the world. We are incredibly excited to make Singapore the home port to our seventh-launched ship, which will sail from here year-round starting in 2025.

Chief Executive of the Singapore Tourism Board reflected D’Amaro’s statements noting,

This is an important milestone for STB and reflects Disney Cruise Line’s strong confidence in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The new Disney cruise ship will be an attraction itself and is expected to boost the tourism sector in Singapore for many years to come.

Singapore is an incredible choice for Disney’s next major departure port for several reasons, including its prime location for visiting other Southeast Asian locales, and its current infrastructure that has already made the port a successful hub for cruise travel.

This region has also been in very high demand for travelers in recent years (and especially as there has been pent-up demand to travel in general since the pandemic.) Disney Cruise Line specifically will bring the top-notch service and entertainment Guests expect from the company right alongside the hospitality industry that has already been growing in Singapore and surrounding areas.

While the new ship will have its own unique personality and amenities, Guests can still expect the traditional Disney magic they have come to know and love including favorite characters like Disney Princesses, Marvel icons, and more, led by Captain Mickey Mouse and Captain Minnie Mouse.

The ship’s construction will soon be underway at the MV Werften shipyard in Wismar, Germany, under the management of Meyer Werft, the same outlet responsible for building the Disney Wish, Disney Dream, and Disney Fantasy, along with the two upcoming ships.

Sails from Singapore will begin in 2025, and we will continue to keep you informed of the latest updates here on Disney Tips.
