The Sunshine State is bracing for the certain impact that the once Tropical Storm Ian, now Hurricane Ian, is expected to make on the state in the next couple of days. Disney travelers will want to take note that Orlando International Airport has made a huge announcement.
The most recent forecast from the National Hurricane Center shows Hurricane Ian making landfall near Tampa, Florida, late Wednesday (September 28, 2022) evening into early Thursday morning (September 29, 2022). The hurricane will likely then shift northeast as it heads into Central Florida.
This update leaves Walt Disney World Resort in the very heart of the hurricane’s cone of uncertainty, along with other theme park giants such as Universal Orlando Resort.
While Walt Disney World blocked additional hotel room bookings from those attempting to visit during the storm, those that have yet to cancel their Resort room reservations but have flights into Orlando International Airport should know the airport will be closing.
Orlando International Airport (@MCO) took to social media to share, “Operational Update – Hurricane Ian: Commercial operations at MCO will cease at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, 09/28/22. Entry to all parking facilities will be closed at that same period. Please contact your airline for flight updates.”
The Orlando International Airport isn’t alone in the closure process. While Walt Disney World Resort still has Disney Park hours listed during the storm’s expected arrival, it too has begun to provide cancellations and closures for its property to prepare for Hurricane Ian’s threat.
