Visiting EPCOT in the near future? You can count on an exciting Disney Park day, but also numerous construction walls to greet you in EPCOT’s former Future World portion of the Park. Magic is happening behind those walls, however, as Disney prepares for its first Moana-inspired attraction.

It’s an exciting time to visit EPCOT with its current transformation into four neighborhoods, including World Celebration, World Discovery, World Nature, and the classic World Showcase. While World Discovery is getting a lot of attention for its brand new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster, we’re switching gears to focus on World Nature neighborhood.

Construction walls have been erected across from EPCOT’s The Seas with Nemo & Friends attrition and Coral Reef Restaurant. We’re taking a peek behind the walls at the highly-anticipated Journey of Water Inspired by Moana attraction.

Disney has already revealed details about the Disney experience noting, “Journey of Water will immerse Guests in a lush environment, and it is here that the story of the global cycle of water will be brought to life in a story completely unique to EPCOT. We’re creating an outdoor attraction for all ages, where you will be invited to play and interact with water as it travels from our skies to our oceans and back again. The spaces and experiences within were inspired by Moana’s friendship with water and her devotion to protecting nature around her.”

On June 11, 2022, @bioreconstruct took several photos to provide a glimpse behind the construction walls as the Moana experience begins to take shape. Check out the photo below of an overview from Monorail of the Journey of Water construction site:

Here’s another view of the construction site, but this one is an aerial overview for a better look:

A Monorail view shows what seems to be a tunnel in the Journey of Water rock work. The yellow arrow is where “chips” of the rock work are being placed along one of the signature EPCOT circular garden walls.

Concrete forms were recently removed from the basin at the center of the surrounding rock work:

This photo by @bioreconstruct notes, “At the center, a recent concrete pour at Journey of Water. At left, a structural frame that will have rock work closer to the monorail. At right, “chips” for latest rock work added.”

And last but not least, the concrete forms are in place at the base of a structure at Journey of Water. The ground-to-roof concrete structure is a stairway into the service basement that remains from former Innoventions:

We’re thrilled to see the rock work developing! We have no doubt Walt Disney Imagineering is working hard to bring an exceptional Moana experience for Disney fans to enjoy for years to come in the World Nature neighborhood at EPCOT. Disney has yet to reveal an anticipated opening timeline, but we will be sure to share further details as we watch the beauty develop!
