EPCOT is currently undergoing the most extensive renovation project in the history of this Disney Park. Once complete, the newly redesigned EPCOT will feature cohesive theming among the three neighborhoods that replaced Future World (World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery), alongside World Showcase.
One of the new attractions coming to EPCOT during its redesign is Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana. The walk-through attraction will, as its name suggests, take Guests through an immersive look a the journey of water and how this essential element connects people around the world.
Imagineers and construction crews have been hard at work perfecting some of the initial details of the attraction, and Disney recently shared some up-close shots of the details that have already been installed from the ground level.

The all-new attraction will offer fun for the whole family as Guests learn about the cycle of water using references from the story of Moana (2016).
The Disney Parks Blog shared the latest photos from the attraction with some additional details on how Journey of Water will take its inspiration from one of Disney’s most heroic characters:
We were also inspired by Moana’s fierce determination to protect her environment – her bond with water is unique, and we are excited for guests to learn about the importance of water and experience its playful personality just as she did.
Fans of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Moana” will be delighted to see familiar shapes and characters carved into the rocks and waterways throughout Journey of Water. A great example of this is Moana herself, who will be positioned proudly – celebrating water’s arrival to our ocean.
The design process for creating new Disney attractions is a lengthy one. To create rides, shows, and immersive environments in general, Imagineers start with models, then move to mock-ups and maquettes as the attraction begins to physically take shape in the Park.
While most of the photos we have seen so far of the construction of Journey of Water have been aerial shots, the latest photos are giving us a glimpse of some of the details already being installed in the attraction with Imagineers’ brilliant carving techniques.
Disney’s initial description of Journey of Water inspired by Moana reads:
This first-ever experience based on the Walt Disney Animation Studios hit film, “Moana,” will let guests interact with magical, living water in a beautiful and inspiring setting.
Disney has not yet shared an opening date for this attraction, but it is very exciting to see work coming along on Journey of Water, and we can’t wait to experience it for ourselves!
