Here’s Where To Find Disney Characters Like You’ve Never Seen Before

Disney snacks are an essential part of any Disney vacation, whether you’re visiting the Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland, California. If you’re anything like us, you won’t just think about Disney snacks when you are visiting the Disney theme parks, but you’ll have thought about them before your vacation has even begun. It’s practically essential that you plan what Disney snacks you want to enjoy and when you will enjoy them. Beignets, Mickey pretzels, popcorn, Mickey Premium Ie Cream Bars, which are your favorite to enjoy?

One Disney snack that often gets overshadowed by others is cotton candy. Unlike other Disney snacks that are made fresh, cotton candy is usually served up, ready made, in bags that make it the ideal treat to enjoy some of, before saving the rest for later on. It’s usually available to buy from Disney merchandise locations, such as Goofy’s Candy Co. and Main Street Confectionary. This sweet snack is often a hit with the younger Guests in your party. Not only is it great for a quick sugar fix but it can be known to turn your tongue a different color too. Some Guests would rather pass on the sweet treat as it’s known for getting your hands pretty sticky. Which kind of Guest are you?

If you’d usually pass on cotton candy for this reason, then we may just be able to change your mind on the sweet treat. Likewise, you may be a Guest who can’t pass up an opportunity to enjoy some cotton candy. We have the place for you to visit… A place that not only sells cotton candy but serves it up in the form of art!

Polar Playground

This fun spot is located in Orange County, California and is less than 30 minutes from Disneyland. Polar Playground is known for its ice cream, milkshakes, desserts and more. But there’s another reason why you should visit… The dessert shop is known for its cotton candy art.

Polar Playground can be found at 16891 Beach Blvd, Huntington Beach, CA 92647. The store is open from Thursdays through to Saturdays, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Two lines operate during opening hours: one for customers who wish to place an order of cotton candy art; and a second line for all other orders.

Similar to Gideon’s Bakehouse in Disney Springs at Walt Disney World, the store is known to have a line before it’s even open. Polar Playground regularly post FAQ’s on their Instagram posts to inform customers of a potential wait when visiting the store. Typically, wait times are shorter of a weekday than of a weekend, which comes as no surprise.

Polar Playground currently only take walk-in orders. Customers are able to check their daily Instagram posts to check for each day’s cotton candy characters, or alternatively, check the board that is displayed outside of the shop when waiting to place an order. Whilst a custom cotton candy creation order is not currently being taken, there is generally a large selection of characters to choose from each day, including Disney characters and other characters too.

Cotton Candy Art

The set up of the Polar Playground store makes it easy for customers to watch each cotton candy character being made. Each character is made to order, with every part of it being edible, apart from the stick. We love that the store doesn’t place a limit on the quantity of characters that a customer places at once. The only downside to this is that the bigger the order placed, the longer the line time will be. If you’re planning on visiting Polar Playground, it would be sensible to give yourself at least an hour to visit, place your order and enjoy your very own cotton candy art.

So how are the cotton candy characters made, you may be wondering? Of course a cotton candy machine is required, as well as a whole lot of sugar, and coloring too. The artists in Polar Playground use the machine to create the main shape of the character. From there, they gather smaller handfuls of cotton candy and mould it to the shape that is required for the features of a character. Each character is very much crafted to perfection.

So what characters are made via this cotton candy art? Whilst those that are available each day vary, characters from many different film and TV franchises star in Polar Playground’s work. The Disney characters that they are known to create include:

  • Baymax
  • Eeyore
  • Winnie the Pooh
  • Piglet
  • Mickey Pumpkin
  • Jack Skellington Pumpkin

Throughout the year, customers can add things to their cotton candy character. Previously, during December, customers have been able to add a Santa hat to their character for $2. Currently, during the month of October, pink ribbons can be added to characters, with all money raised being matched and donated to breast cancer research.

You may be feeling a little disappointed that you can’t visit Polar Playground soon, as you haven’t yet got a trip to Disneyland, California planned. If you have an upcoming trip to Walt Disney World planned though, you may be in luck. The China Pavilion in EPCOT has been known to sell cotton candy art to Guests throughout the year. A Santa Hat cotton candy art has been known to be sold during the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays. Otherwise, creations in the shape of butterflies, heart and flowers are available to Guests at the House of Good Fortune.

So what are you waiting for? Next time you’re visiting Disneyland, why not tie in a visit to Polar Playground and order your very own cotton candy character? This fun spot is most certainly on our list to visit when we’re next in town!
